As much as I enjoyed living with a ton of my sisters in our sorority house, I am happy to live in a duplex this year with just 3 other sisters. I feel like I have more personal space and independence. Yet as much as I love my fabulous room mates and my cute little home, I am still in the process of adjusting to a few things like…

Navigating the New Meal Plan

We all know by now that DePauw has implemented a new meal plan based on “swipes” and “flex dollars” in place of the past declining balance plan. Even after a few weeks of eating at the Hub and the Den, I am still a little confused by how it all works. And I keep hearing the sad news that Marvin’s no longer accepts Tiger Cards of Community Plus dollars… what’s up with that?

Buying my own Groceries

Maybe this is not a challenge for most people, but I seem to get so overwhelmed on every trip to the grocery store. No matter how many lists I make, I always seem to forget something that I actually need.  I also think that my mother would be ashamed at the foods that I deem “healthy”. Hopefully I will begin to pick up a few recipes instead of rotating between Ramen and Easy Mac everyday.

Decorating and Organizing

As hard as we tried to coordinate over the summer, my room mates and I still ended up with multiples of some things and none of others. For instance, we endedup with 3 sets of dishes and no iron or toaster. We did not even have a bath mat for awhile, which of course resulted in some slipping.

Not Seeing my Friends Everyday

This has been one of the hardest adjustments of all. As chaotic as a sorority house can be at times, it is nice to always be surrounded by some of my best friends.

Luckily, every time I visit I am always welcomed back into the house with open arms.
