Fall Break Funtivities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Whether you’re staying at DePauw or finally getting to go home to meet up with your old gang, we’ve got some great ideas for the beautiful days away from class.

Apple Orchard

As the leaves change color, and you begin to fully embrace the sweatshirts and sweaters of fall what better way to take it all in than a trip to the orchard? The closest apple farm in Tiger Country is Anderson Orchard, which is just a quick thirty minute drive away. If you are going home for fall break, check out your local orchard. Nothing beats warm, homemade apple pie after a fun day outside!

Pumpkin Decorating

One of my favorite memories of fall as a kid was going to the pumpkin patch, picking out a pumpkin, going home and gutting it, Saw style. Nowadays, if you aren’t a fan of the giant mess that carving entails, you can opt for the less messy alternative of painting your pumpkins. The nearest pumpkin patch is also at Anderson Orchard, so feel free to kill two birds with one stone! You can also pick up pumpkins at Walmart and have a pumpkin carving or painting party with all your pals! What else are you doing on these beautiful weekends? Homework- schm-omework!

Book-flix

The best thing about fall break is no classes, but what’s better than no classes? No homework! While you may have those terrible Satanic professors who insist on a holiday ten-pager, you still have plenty of time to unwind with your favorite series: television or book. Plan on binging Grey’s Anatomy or The Office, or rereading the entire Harry Potter series for the umpteenth time.

Hibernation

As much as you would love to spend all your time with your family or out and about doing all sorts of grand things, a large chunk of this impending break will be spent catching up on lost zzz’s… In a cocoon of mattress, pillows and down comforters, of course.

Shopping

As much as we can all deny our outrageous online shopping, or “online window shopping,” going to a real life mall is one of the most therapeutic cures for post midterm stress! If you are staying in G-Castle for the break, get your friends together and drive to Plainfield or Indy!
