A Semester Without Boys: Conclusion

Ellie Toth

As strange as it is, my friend concluded her semester without boys with a fairy tale ending: she got a boyfriend.  No, this is not a joke.  After a year with a broken heart, and a semester of entertaining dates, she has managed to find a keeper.  “This was the only guy, whom I went on more than one date with,” she says.  While she was hesitant to bend the rules of the no boys semester, she figured that she shouldn’t disregard a nice guy just because of them.  So, she went on date after date with him and after a while, he became more than just one of the many boys she had rejected this semester.

The story gets even weirder considering that the day her prince charming made things official with her was the exact day that she declared as the ending to her boy-less semester: December 1st.   Now, I know this sounds extremely cheesy and you probably think that I am making this up but this is a real life romantic comedy.  I asked her what the most important thing that she learned from her semester was and she said, “I’ve learned not to determine how I feel about myself based on if guys are attracted to me or not; how you carry yourself determines how you feel about yourself.”

Although my friend got her happily ever after, it does not guarantee that a semester without boys will result in a relationship.  Every one gets to that point in a different way.  For my friend, it happened to be when she stopped looking; however, for you, it could be the complete opposite! If boys easily put you down, then a semester without them may be for you too!
