On November 30th students gathered for the 4/20 Forum. This forum was put in place to discuss the legislation of a possible ban on Campus to remove the 4/20 tradition. The panelists included the University of Colorado Student Government Executives and CU administration.
Steps to remove the event began last spring when a school wide survey was distributed. Just under 4,000 undergraduates completed the survey with, what some may find to be shocking, many negative viewpoints of the event. Aside from the obvious concerns of traffic, clean up, schedule interference and crowds, the main concern among many students is the reputation of the university.
When conducting a Google search, or watching Youtube videos relating to the university, one can almost guarantee a handful of search results will relate to this infamous 4/20 event. One could argue that the stigma this has placed on our school overrides the true caliber of the education offered at CU and discounts the capabilities of its students.
Yes, once a year Norlin Quad has been known to be flooded with smoke and the day of festivities has earned national fame, but is it worth it? On November 30th the Legislation to remove 4/20 from campus passed, and I would argue that is something we can all appreciate.
