HELP! What should I get him for Christmas?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Concordia CA chapter.

Christmas is right around the corner: the jolly music, the chocolate calendar, hot chocolate dates and matching sweaters. When we were children, it was also the beautiful awaiting of knowing what your parents and relatives had gotten you. As we grew older, we realized we now had to become the givers. Especially if you are in a relationship! Finding gifts for women has always been easy. Not to say that we are all the same, but it’s easier to know what our gender may like or need. When it comes to finding gifts for your partner, it might become a bit trickier. I present you five gifts idea that can accommodate any girlfriend’s budget and creativity level!

Spa treatment for two: Not only is it a gift that both of you can enjoy, it’s actually something that every couple should get after a stressful end of the semester. A few spa specials include massages and facials. You have the option to make an appointment, or spend a week-end away or choose gift certificates with an expiration date (which leaves room for the both of you to choose a date that correspond to your availabilities). Groupon has deals ranging from 29 to 89$!

Night in dinner: A Christmas themed dinner for the two of you is another alternative to having a fancy night out. This option offers more intimacy and is definitely worth the try if you love cooking. Decorate, light candles, cook his favorite food, pop a good but cheap champagne bottle and you have yourself a night he will not forget.

Gift cards: the simple, but effective gift card! If you are going to go this route, you must be careful in choosing the gift card to your advantage. Do not just buy one to get rid of the chase. If your significant other has been expressing thoughts and desires about items from a specific brand, getting them that gift card will help them! For example, I once had a boyfriend who always wanted to try new games, but felt irresponsible about spending paychecks on those. He simply played the same games over and over again and I could see it made him enjoy his console less. I was not sure what kind of games he was into. Instead of buying a specific game and risking him not liking it, I bought him an EB Games gift card and he got to pick new games. He was not only happy to finally get the games, he was very glad that I had been listening to him and cared about his happiness.

Shoes: If you know your man’s size, you can never go wrong with a good pair of shoes! Unless he’s a shopaholic, men do not spend this much on shoes on a yearly basis. A 2010 market research concluded that men only purchase an average of two pairs of shoes a year and considering they may become used quicker (because they are worn more often), you will do him a great favor by getting him a fresh addition to his minimal collection. If you’re not sure about his style, ask his friends or whomever he shops with, his mother or visit the store(s) he usually shops at.

DIY Jars and boxes: You may have seen this before: gift jars and boxes have been very popular on Pinterest in the last couple of years! You can fill them with little items, notes, snacks, etc. For Christmas, you can fill one jar with special messages and wishes for the upcoming year, red and green sweets and add a gold ribbon to top it off. What I like to do is add little Polaroid photos of the two of us, make a color-coded chart for the personal notes and include song lyrics of our favorite jams!
