A Thanksgiving Story, Told With the Help of Arrested Development

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

School vacation. Reuniting with your (crazy?) family. Overeating. Welcome to the wonderful holiday that is Thanksgiving.

Your last class is finished! Hello, blissful break.

You celebrate the beginning of vacation with your college friends before you all head to your Thanksgiving destinations.

As you pack your things and get ready for a delightfully crowded bus/train/plane trip home, you question if Thanksgiving is worth the hours of claustrophobic transportation.

After a long journey, you finally arrive home and your parents maul you.

But it’s like your siblings forgot you ever lived there.

You may have forgotten just how weird your family is…and how much you missed them.

Thanksgiving is finally here! Relatives begin to pile in, and as you dodge dodgy kisses, you want a sign that says:

For the 20th year, you find yourself back at the kid’s table.

During dinner, you inevitably have to battle the many awkward questions your distant relatives throw at you.

Facing a table full of delectable food, after months of dining hall food, gluttony and pure excitement take over.

And it’s not over! Because here comes dessert.

After the meal, you lounge in a food-induced vegetative state.

Unfortunately, your peace can’t last long. Your kid cousins are still hyper and decide they want to play.

Once the festivities are over, you call up your old high school gang to recreate old times. When you see them everyone is ecstatic and it’s wonderful.

And after a (hopefully) fun break, it’s time to go back to school. Thanksgiving break has, yet again, shown you the age-old lesson that no matter how wacky your family is, they’re pretty fabulous.

So long, until winter break! You’re on the road again.
