My Three New Favorite Blogs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

I deleted my facebook over a year ago. People are usually weirded out that I do not have one. Some (my sister) get annoyed that they cannot see what I am doing at school. Others are impressed and ask how productive I am that I cannot procrastinate on it. Oh they are so wrong! I have found many other outlets. Check out my three favorite time killers!

Allie Brosch writes this blog. She graduated from University of Montana in 2009. While there she studied biology, ran track, and started writing these hysterical comics. Her last article is about her dealing with her depression. Even though it is a very serious topic, it is still hilarious and everyone can relate to it. At the end of it I did not know whether to laugh or cry so I re-read it a million times to figure it out. It never got old. All of her entries are so funny and relatable. My favorite is about the “alots” (You will be able to tell I am an English major).

After finding this blog I put cake-decorating tools as the number one item on my Christmas list. The author makes the most beautiful cupcakes and experiments with many flavor combinations that I would not think would go well in a cupcake such as wasabi-white chocolate-plum jelly. She teaches you how to make ganache, fruit and chocolate fillings, bombe, and more. I feel like I can make Crumbs Bakery cupcakes at home now! When I am home during break I am going to make the Kiwi-Lychee cupcakes.

Maggie Doyne is from a town near mine in NJ. After graduating from high school she took a year off to explore the world. She came across some orphans from the war stricken Nepal and realized that with just a few dollars a year she could send girls to school. Maggie took her life’s saving that she earned from babysitting and moved to Nepal. She just turned 25 this fall. With the support of friends and family, she now has opened up a school and orphanage in Nepal. Her blog is very touching and the kids are hysterical.

Emily Bliss is a sophomore at Colgate University, where her academic interests include Political Science, Economics, and Chinese. She hopes to attend business school upon her graduation. In addition to being a tour guide and admissions office volunteer, she competes with the Alpine Ski Racing Team and the Rugby Club. Emily calls Cambridge, Massachusetts home, as it is where she was born and raised, though she loves living in Hamilton, New York when school is in session. Her favorite activities include spending time in and around Boston, watching Gossip Girl, traveling, and cooking!
