Behind The Concert for The Cupboard

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

This twenty-two year old disc jockey started his career at the age of sixteen and has been headlining college tours and international venues ever since. After his amazing set at Spring Party Weekend 2013, Marco has been in high demand for another appearance at Colgate. Kappa Kappa Gamma, Beta Theta Pi, SPCA, and CAC have teamed up with the Colgate Activities Board (CAB) to bring this year’s CAB:Club Series to greater heights. Yes, this awesome event is FREE and includes drinks catered by The Rusty Rail for students twenty-one and up.The event will be raising funds for the Hamilton Food Cupboard. Open donations are being collected at the Jesse Marco Coop tables every day this week, as well as at the concert.
The Hamilton Food Cupboard is a food bank which serves families in the local Hamilton and Madison school districts. “It may be hard to see, but 1 in 10 Madison County residents is living in poverty: that’s 7,000 individuals, including 2,300 children,”said Julie Dale, Executive Director of Community Action Partnership (CAP) for Madison County. The Hamilton Food Cupboard serves around 180 families per month. The Cupboard serves approximately 1,000 meals each month. But how? All because of the generous community for providing both food and financial donations which keep the food bank stocked. However, due to an increase in usage the Hamilton Food Cupboard needs all the help it can get.
This event is about bringing Colgate students together in order to help the greater Madison County community. The ultimate goal is to have one night where students from all walks of life can come together for a fun open party at The Palace Theatre. As a tradeoff for hosting this fun and all-inclusive concert, we are asking students to donate anything they can to the Hamilton Food Cupboard. No donation is too small; anything you can give will help. We chose to support a local charity just to show much we appreciate the town of Hamilton. Come out to see Jesse Marco this Friday, but more importantly, give back to the community that has provided every single Colgate student with a home away from home. It’s the least we can do!
