My New Member Experience in Greek Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

I came into college my freshman year not quite sure what my place was on campus or what I even wanted to major in. I found myself trying out new clubs and organizations and never really committing or falling in love with any of them. I formed good friendships with a few people on campus, but I found myself not going out of my comfort zone enough and not experiencing all that college had to offer for me. I thought about going through formal recruitment as a freshman, but was hesitant if a sorority was really something I wanted to do, and decided not to sign up.

Looking back, I’m glad I waited until my sophomore year to go through the formal recruitment process. I feel like Freshman year was my year to adjust to college life and get comfortable with being away from home (even though home is only an hour away). I don’t think I would have gone through the recruitment process with such an open mind and excitement if I hadn’t had my Freshman year to really figure the whole “college thing” out and find out what I want out of my college experience. I decided to take a chance and sign up for recruitment, and I’m so glad I did. The recruitment experience taught me so much about myself, and let me go out of my comfort zone and talk to so many wonderful people that helped me find the right organization for me to join. Over these past few weeks, being a new member has been overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. Getting to know over a 100 wonderful sisters will take quite some time, but I’m looking forward to the friendships and memories I get to form through my Greek life experience.

I decided to go through recruitment to find my place on campus and an organization that I can get involved in on campus and make memories with. I’m looking forward to the impact Greek Life will have on my life here at CNU for the next 2 and half years, and also the years beyond.
