How They Say Good-bye: Sadie & Lee, Her Campus at CNU’s Seniors

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

Two of our most dedicated seniors are graduating, and we’re so sad to see them go. Find out what they’re going to miss most about being a Captain!

Sadie

“The organizations I have been a part of and the friends I have made have also made these four years some of the most amazing times of my life. I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to come to CNU and have these experiences. Her Campus has provided me with such a fun and empowering environment to be creative and to be myself. I have loved being able to connect to the campus through so many different outlets such as writing and social media with such an awesome team by my side. Thanks for the memories, HC CNU!”

Lee

“I think what I will miss most about CNU isn’t one big thing, but rather a number of small things that happened every day that I took for granted. I will miss sitting in Einstein’s and seeing so many familiar faces in one spot. I will miss going to work every day with some of the best coworkers I could have asked for. I’ll miss living within walking distance of the majority of my friends. I’ll miss being able to schedule a dinner with someone at the last second and meeting up with them at Regatta’s, and I’ll miss Common’s french fries. I’ll miss my roommates because living with them has meant so much to me, and I’ll miss all the friends I made here. Heck, I’ll miss my room. But I think days like today make me realize that one of the things I so often took for granted was how beautiful this place is. I see it every day, but looking out over the Great Lawn when it’s sunny and there are tons of people sitting outside and dogs running around… well that’s my definition of paradise. I will miss it all.”

We know they’re not ready to leave CNU, but we’re so thankful to them for all they’ve done for us. We know that no matter what they end up doing, they’ll lead with great passion and heart. Congrats to our leading ladies — and to the rest of CNU Class of 2017!

You can categorize Royall as either Leslie Knope when she has her color-coded binders: or Hyde whenever Jackie comes into a room before they start dating: There is no in-between.  Royall recently graduated with her B.A. in Sociology & Anthropology from CNU and now studies Government & International Relations at Regent University. She also serves as the Victim Advocate and Community Outreach Coordinator for Isle of Wight Co., VA in Victim Witness Services. Within Her Campus, she served as a Chapter Writer for CNU for one year, a Campus Expansion Assistant for a semester, Campus Correspondent for two years, and is in the middle of her second semester as a Chapter Advisor.  You can find her in the corner of a subway-tiled coffee shop somewhere, investigating identity experiences of members of Black Greek Letter Organizations at Primarily White Institutions as well as public perceptions of migrants and refugees. Or fantasizing about ziplining arcoss the French Alps.
Lee Martin is a 20-year-old junior at Christopher Newport University majoring in Communication Studies with minors in Leadership and Women's & Gender Studies. She co-founded CNU's chapter of Her Campus and currently serves as Co-Campus Correspondent/Editor-in Chief, as well as a Chapter Advisor to five other campuses. As a journalist, she has written for The Oyster Pointer, The Winchester Star, and worked with National Student Leadership Conference's Journalism, Film & Media Arts program. When not writing, you can find her binging on chocolate and coffee while laughing at Parks and Rec or The Office. If you must read her silly musings, follow her on Twitter at @loveleeforlife
