Campus Celebrity: Chowder

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

Whether you’re a new student to CNU or in your final year, chances are you’ve heard the name “Chowder” around campus. And no wonder, the guy is involved in more activities than most people could list off the top of their heads. From football games to campus tours, his involvement is far-reaching. But how much do you actually know about him? Read on to discover the origins of his nickname, exactly how many things he does on campus, and what he plans to do with his future.

Name: Tim “Chowder” Richard

Year: Junior

Major: Biochemistry

Why are you called “Chowder”?

“Long story short, it was seventh grade football and we were doing a canned food drive fundraiser and I dropped a can of chowder out of my backpack, threw it in my locker because I didn’t want to be late to practice, and at the end of the season it had pressure cooked in the can. And yeah, that’s where the name came from.”

Can you list all the activities you’re involved in on campus?

“On campus, I’m involved with Delta Upsilon, I am the voice of the CNU Marching Captains, and I’m on executive board for Where Is The Line. I’m also a Student Ambassador in the Office of Admission, and I’m a President’s Leadership Program Ambassador. I am also part of the orientation staff and an intern at Fear 2 Freedom.”

What are you passionate about?

“I’d say what I’m most passionate about in terms of a cause is ending rape and sexual assault in the community and on college campuses.”

Where are you most likely to be found on campus between classes?

“Usually in the library doing homework.”

What’s your favorite Einstein’s order?

“Passion tea lemonade with raspberry.”

If you could have dinner with any three people from history, living or dead, who would they be?

“Da Vinci, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Downey, Jr.”

Any reason why?

“They’re all great speakers, they all had great ideas; and Robert Downey, Jr. is Iron Man, and Iron Man is my hero.”

What are your goals for the future?

“After CNU, I’d like to go to law school and hopefully go into prosecution working for a nonprofit. Someday, I’d like to hold an elected office, either serve in the House of Representatives or the Senate, and hopefully if everything works out, serve as the President of the United States.”

Any closing remarks?

“Stay in school. Don’t do drugs.”
