Campus Celebrity: A Glimpse into the Life of Aline Naroditsky

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

Name: Aline Naroditsky

Major: Business Administration and Decision Science

From: New Jersey

Aline Naroditsky, a sophomore business administration and decision science double major is very involved on campus. Besides being a part of Alpha Chi Omega, she is also a part of the Carnegie Mellon Ski and Snow board team and the Undergraduate Marketing Organization.  Aline is also a TA for 15-110 Principles of Computing and she also teaches at Thrive@CMU.

When asked what else she likes to do with her spare time (if she ever has any considering her busy schedule), skiing still stays on the list. “Skiing is a huge part of my life… (I started) racing freshman year of high school.” Although Aline did not ski last year due to her uncertainty of being able to commit the time required, she made sure she had time for it this year. “(I have been) skiing since I was 3. (In fact) we are going to regionals this weekend”.

Besides skiing, Aline’s interest in travelling and the arts make her truly unique. Where has she been? After high school Aline backpacked through Spain and she went to Israel last year. She has also studied abroad twice, in Spain and Argentina. In fact, in Argentina her volunteered while studying abroad. “I also used to spend (my) summers in a tiny village in Russia”, she casually adds. After that long list, is there still a place she wants to visit? Of course there is! “I am hoping to study abroad in Italy junior spring”. Why Italy? “Because it’s a place I have never been to but it has a lot of history and I really love history. Especially renaissance history and art…and so much of it is in Italy.” Anyone hearing her talk can clearly see Aline is excited just talking about Italy. “It is one thing to read about a painting or see a painting, and another to go see it” she quickly adds to justify her interest.

This brings us to Aline’s other interest, the arts. “My love for performing arts started out in Opera.” Aline has since added to the list. “I went to the ballet on Friday and My Fair Lady on Tuesday. I might see a quartet tonight” When asked how she keeps up with this hobby? “I try to keep it up while at school” Some of Aline’s favorites include La Traviata,  “and I do really like my fair lady”. Aline’s tastes are very different from her peers however. “I am not that big on Broadway… (I am) more interested in opera and classical music. I watched Lion King on Broadway a while back and I really liked it.”

Aline’s unique interests have been helped a lot by the internship she did last summer. Aline interned at the Lincoln Center of Performing Arts, “make sure you put the full name, because Lincoln Center can be a location”. This internship helped her learn a lot about performing arts. Aline was a marketing intern for the center, and worked on a lot of different things, including digital and print marketing. She also learned how to swing dance, “saw a Kabuki show, saw a theater performance with Cate Blanchett and saw countless classically musical concerts”.

While Aline loved the atmosphere, she is looking for a new internship experience this year. Asked what her ideal job would be, and whether it would be something to do with the arts or in another country and Aline starts shaking her head. “I don’t know if it will be with something related to the arts, but that would be interesting.” The location? “New York…I was born in Manhattan, and I grew up half an hour outside.” Aline adds, “as much as I like to travel, New York is home.”

I am currently senior majoring in Business Administration and Statistics with a track in Finance at Carnegie Mellon University. Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Enid Blyton and J.K Rowling are a few of my favorite authors. I also love watching British TV shows (Sherlock is my favorite!). On campus, I am involved in several activities, including Carnegie Mellon Business Association and Smart Woman Securities.
I am a junior Materials Science and Engineering mjaor at Carnegie Mellon University, and I am also minoring in Professional Writing and Business. I am a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  I love TV and trying out new beauty products.  I follow E! on Twitter so that I can stay up-to-date on celebrity news.  I'm royal-obsessed, and I love Kate Middleton's style.  I'm kind of a Sephora addict, and I could easily spend hours there.  I also spend way too much time on Pinterest.  Finally, I love hockey and all Pittsburgh sports.
