Why We’re So Excited for Gilmore Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

It’s back!!! It’s back!!! Well….almost. Mark your calendars for November 25th, 2016 for the new miniseries of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The official trailer has been released and you can watch it here

We see glimpses of all the old characters including all of Rory’s ex loves: Dean, Jess, and Logan. What could this mean? We know there is a LOT of drama involving all of these boys at some point in Rory’s life. Dean was her first love and she ended up sleeping with him when he was married! Jess has come and gone in her life multiple times, but the last we saw, they were civil towards each other. Logan recently proposed to Rory with a not-so-surprising answer of no. Everyone has a different view on which boyfriend was better for Rory… Personally, I liked Logan the most and if she doesn’t want him, I’ll take him. I guess we’ll find out what is in store for Rory and her love life. Let’s also notice that Rory is unemployed. I don’t know whether or not to feel better or worse about myself knowing this. If Rory Gilmore, Yale graduate, doesn’t have a job, how will I ever get a job?! I don’t know how to handle this information.

Last we saw of Luke and Lorelai was that they were getting back together. Obviously in the new series, they are…but is Lorelai actually happy? She seems to be questioning the relationship and wondering if what they have is what she actually wants. I’ve always thought they were meant to be together and I will be very upset if they end up breaking it off again, but I love Lorelai and want her to be happy and if that means ending her relationship with Luke, I will support her every decision. Once again, I will take the Gilmore leftovers if they don’t want them. To have a Logan and a Luke will make for a very happy Her Campus Clemson writer over here.

We get to see our favorite duo on the screen with their obnoxious amount of coffee drinking and eating, (seriously, how do they both stay so thin?) and even after 10 years, the two still look amazing! I have definitely been binge watching all of the seasons on Netflix to prepare for the premiere. Gilmore Girls is such a great story because we get to watch our little innocent Rory grow up into a strong independent woman while tackling the world with role-model and mother Lorelai. I might be a little biased here, since I never was the biggest fan of Rory… but I’m very much anticipating Lorelai and her endeavors. Her adventure over the years has been the most interesting and inspiring to me, from putting her heart out there multiple times, to knowing when what she has is not what she wants and doing something about it, to opening her own business with Sookie, she truly is a role model for me, even if she is fictional!

Let’s not forget that we see the notorious Emily Gilmore in jeans. We’ve seen her before in Lorelai’s sneakers while still rocking the professional attire, but this is a whole new level of casual. Although it seems this is a result of her beloved husband, Richard Gilmore, passing away, we can still appreciate the transformation of Emily going from a snooty event-planning woman to a more laid back and welcoming lady, even though I loved Emily from the start. I can’t be the only one who did not know that the actor who played Richard Gilmore passed away. Edward Herrmann, may he rest in peace, was honestly one of my favorite characters in the show because he was portrayed as a man who had emotions and showed them, instead of being portrayed as the rich snob (well, most of the time) that so many of the other wealthy men in the show appeared to be. I think it is only fitting that a giant wall sized painting of him be placed in the Gilmore mansion because that is how much of an effect he had on the show. I already know that I will be needing the tissues for the funeral scene and we will all miss our Richard Gilmore dearly.

I am so thankful that they decided to do a new series of Gilmore Girls. For the longest time, I could not get into the show, but now I am obsessed. Let the countdown begin!
