Tigeroar President Trace Holt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.
Trace is the President of Clemson’s male a capella group Tigeroar! He is a Junior Biological Science major from Loris, South Carolina.  If you have never heard them sing live, it is something you need to make sure you do this semester. But for now, check them out all over YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiKfm7vyc1w

1) What is your favorite part about being a part of Tigeroar?

My favorite part about being in Tigeroar is being a part of a group of guys that enjoy singing, making music, and performing. It’s fun to take a song, arrange an a cappella version of it, and perform it for an audience and see their reaction. Thats really what makes singing a cappella music fun.

2) What is your favorite thing about Clemson?

My favorite thing about Clemson is without a doubt the family atmosphere, and I couldn’t imagine a better place with better people. Clemson students are so well connected through classes, organizations and other on campus activities. I’ve build some of the best relationships here at Clemson and I know they will last a lifetime.

3) What do you do as Tigeroar’s president?

As Tigeroar’s President I oversee all of our activities and serve as the group’s primary contact. With the help of our Music Director and Vice President, I plan our Fall tour and work with Takenote’s President in the planning of our annual Fall show. I also plan Tigeroar Live and am responsible for all of our on and off campus bookings.

4) What has been your most memorable activity as a part of Tigeroar?

My most memorable activity as a member of Tigeroar was probably performing at MUSC’s Children’s hospital during our Fall tour in 2013. I couldn’t imagine being stuck in a hospital at such a young age not knowing what was going on around me. Through music we were able to put a smile on their faces and take their minds off of their environment for a few minutes. For me it definitely reminded me of how blessed we truly are.

5) What is your favorite Clemson tradition?

I think my favorite Clemson tradition would have to be Gameday, which is actually an accumulation of many traditions There’s tailgating, running down the hill, the cadence counts, the band playing Tigerag, and storming the field after a win. All of those traditions plus the Clemson family makes every game day a holiday.

6) What was your favorite song Tigeroar ever performed?

I think my favorite song that Tigeroar has performed is No Diggity. When I was about 5 years old my mom played an actual version in the car one day, and from then on I was rapping and singing it every time I heard it. Tigeroar did the song my freshman year and I it just so happened that I got one of the solos. It was my first solo in the group and is one of my favorite songs, so it meant a little something extra to me.

7) What was the audition process like?

For me that audition process was pretty nerve racking. I was one of twenty five guys auditioning that semester and I didn’t think I even had a shot at making it. I had to sing a song by myself in front of the guys in the group at that time. Luckily I made it through the first audition and got a callback and was one of five guys to make it that semester. Being on the other side of the audition process is not any easier. There are a bunch of great singers that audition each semester and we only have a limited number of spots available so it can get very difficult.
