Things to Look Forward to for Fall

Things to Look Forward to for Fall

Ah, yes. After months of waiting, September is finally here. It is almost fall. Yet it

seems Clemson hasn’t quite figured it out yet. With temperatures still in the high 80s

and girls still roaming about in tank tops and sandals, it’s hard to believe that fall

could be just around the corner. So for those of you looking longingly at your fall

wardrobe like I am, here are some things to look forward to so you can trudge

through the last heat waves of summer and get to good ol’ Clemson fall.

1. Pumpkin Spice

I’m not even a big fan of pumpkin, but there is something about seeing girls

walk around with cups of Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Pumpkin Spice candles

in store windows that in undeniably fall.

2. Duck Boots

A southern staple, there is never a short supply of Duck Boots waddling

around campus. They are perfect for Clemson fall weather because they can

withstand both the rain and the snow (and we never quite know which one

we are going to get). Maybe it’s time I finally invest in some of these…

3. Curling up with a blanket without feeling like you’re in a sauna.

One of my favorite things to do is to snuggle up under a fuzzy blanket with a

cup of tea and read a good book. Yet with the weather still at mid-summer

levels, I’ve had to settle for sweating in a tank top and shorts.

4. Blanket scarves

On my roommate’s recent trip to Ireland, she came back with a tale about

blankets wrapped around people’s necks. But they were SCARVES. A must

have for winter, we are hoping the trend hits the states very soon.

5. Halloween

Maybe I’m the only dork around here, but nothing gets me more excited than

Halloween. In fact, I could write pages just on why I love Halloween. But

whether you want to be a slutty pumpkin (How I Met Your Mother, anyone?)

or just sit at home, eat candy, and watch Hocus Pocus, Halloween is a time of

year that everyone can look forward to.

6. Sweaters

A comfy sweater can make your day just that much brighter. I know I have

several just sitting in my closet, waiting for the day they can make their

appearance. They can be casual or cute, and most importantly, cozy.

7. Colorful Leaves

There’s something about leaves changing colors that inspires everyone. After

so many months of nothing but greenery, the hues of red, orange, and yellow

are a welcome change. Plus, how can you not love the satisfying crunch of

stepping on leaves on your way to class?

8. Hot Coffee

I am tired of having to order my coffee on ice. I like to be able to sip on a hot

drink with a scarf wrapped around my neck, and not be afraid of passing out

from heatstroke.

9. Flannel Shirts

For both guys and girls, flannel shirts are one of the best things about fall.

The cozy material paired with a plaid pattern screams “It’s time! Fall is

here!”. With an homage to lumberjacks everywhere, flannel shirts are an

autumn favorite.

10. Clemson Football

There’s nothing better than a Clemson football game. Although the season

has already started, the best games are yet to come. The ones where you

bundle up and bring a blanket along to cheer for Deshaun. The ones where

you don’t sweat through your dress or have to leave early because it’s so hot.

The best games are the ones where you can huddle with your friends

watching the greatest team on Earth. It’s always a wonderful thing to see

your breath while chanting “C-L-E-M-S-O-N”.

So there you go. A few things to keep your going through the last few weeks of

summer heat. Although summer has been great, it is high time we hang up the

bathing suits and grab our fuzzy socks. Hurry up autumn, we’re waiting.
