Five Fave + Affordable Gifts for the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

With the holidays right around the corner the stress of gift buying is settling in. Everyone wants to give ~fabulous~ gifts to their friends, without breaking the bank. But no worries, here are 5 types of gifts that your friends will love and so will your wallet.

  1. Nail Polish

Nail polish is the perfect gift, even though it is small it will last a while! You could go with your friend’s favorite color, or go with a festive holiday red! You can easily dress up the gift with a cute tag saying “For your mistle ‘toes’” or “Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? In the lane, toes are glistening?”. The polish itself will be a great gift, but the cute tags will really make a difference!

2. Fancy Soap

TJMaxx has TONS of ornate and fancy soaps ranging from $5-$10. You can never go wrong with bath and body gifts, and they always come in such pretty packaging! You could leave it in its original packaging or take it a step further, by wrapping it in brown paper, drawing a cute holiday design, and topping it off with some ribbon!

3. Candles

Candles are the perfect gift all year round, not just the holidays! But, around the holidays, Bath&Body Works in particular, release the BEST holiday scents! Some of my favorites are the scents “Marshmallow Fireside, Tis the Season, Flannel, and Champagne Toast”! They are usually priced at about $20, however when it gets closer to the holidays, they usually knock the price down to between $10-$12!

4. Baked Goods

If you love to bake, you can never go wrong with sweet treats during the holidays! It takes a little more time than shopping, but your friends will really appreciate the “made with love” component of the gift! Making holiday shaped cookies with cute icing designs or peppermint bark wrapped in festive bags with gift tags, is such an easy gift!

5. DIY Glitter-Sharpie Mugs

I made these for a couple of my friends last Christmas, and they LOVED them! They are super affordable and easy to make! All you need is a mug (preferably white), a sharpie paint pen, glitter of your choosing, and mod podge! Painters tape is also a good hack if you’re not good with staying in the lines (like me). Write or draw whatever you want on the mug, bake it in the oven, then add your glitter, and seal it with mod podge! It is so simple and they’re almost fool proof to make! Plus, you can fill the mug with little treats and add a tag to dress it up a bit!

Adding a festive holiday card along with any of these gifts will make them even better! Hopefully now you are inspired to get all of your holiday gift shopping or making done! The holidays are times for friends, family, and togetherness, so don’t let the stress of the shopping get you down!
