Your World: A Reflection

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

Your world should be a place not everyone gets to see, it should be a piece of everything you stand for. It should be decorated with your favorite colors, flowers, quotes and more. It should play the sound of your favorite song, and it should feel like your favorite season every time you need an escape from everything. Your world should not be accessed by everyone, it should be accessed by those who inspire you, by those who love you and will hug you tightly when your world seems to crumble. Your world should be strong but weak enough to let you cry, it should heal your scars and it should make you smile after the fall, it should make you feel secure like your bedroom at home, like your mom’s kisses and like your daddy’s hugs. In you world you are you and no one else matters, no one’s conceptions, no one’s perspectives matter. In this world you make the rules and you are the owner of it, like you are the owner of your body and your emotions. In this world no one can harm you because this is the place that welcomes you when someone has broken little pieces of your soul. This world usually knows your favorite candy and your favorite landscape. This world just knows the right things to think about to get your soul strong and ready for another day.

Your world is your most personal element. It has your favorite sizes and looks of the moon and that quote you heard the other day that inspired you so much. In this world you feel pure, clean and human. This space of yours gives you courage everyday, it tells you how beautiful you are, how much you can accomplish and how free and worth it you are. It allows you to see your most vulnerable side and also your most beautiful qualities. You can walk with no direction and see whatever you want to see in your journal. This world shows you your favorite sunset, and it takes you back to your favorite summer memory. This world has beautiful paintings and funny drawings you used to share with your best friends and your family, your world has everything you have ever loved packed in a little travel bag ready to go anywhere, whenever you want. This space of yours is so peaceful and it plays your favorite movies, it makes you realize the reality of everything. A love movie in your world can be as delicate as your hands or as rough as your past love memories. Your world has a quote for you to live by every day, it tells you how humble of a human being you are and how much you have to offer the world.

My world is full of flowers. You can see roses, lilacs, black-eyed Susans, camellias, those flowers that remind me of home. My little space has many memories of when I was a little girl. It holds my favorite letters from people who have marked my life forever. In my world there are many kind of clouds, light and beautiful ones for the good days – for the days when I wake up and feel like I can do it all, when I look in the mirror and I see a beautiful woman – and the dark ones are for the days when I don’t want to get out of bed, when I just want to cuddle in my blankets and feel as vulnerable as I want. Those ones are the clouds I see when I cry myself to sleep. When I can’t find my destination or purpose, my world gives me so much comfort. There are a lot of peace signs and mountains in my little world. I keep the photographs of every trip, of every city I have ever been to. It shows me those pictures with my favorite people on a Thursday night, on a holiday, pictures that describe all the places I’ve been to, and all of the amazing people who have been part of my life and those photographs that simply amaze me.

In your world you can hide what other don’t appreciate about you, you can put your insecurities on your nightstand and no one will break them, no one would touch them, they are in a safe place. You can smile about your favorite summer night and you can cry about those times people broke your spirit, those times you fought with your best friends and lost them forever. Your world knows how you feel every time. It knows the perfect words to allow you to move on, to allow you to be reasonable about the past. Your little world holds your favorite black dress and it picks the perfect shoes to go with it. It makes you feel fuzzy inside when you think of those who hold your heart; it makes you love them and everything that comes in their world. It puts all their flaws out the door and it receives them with love and compassion. Your world takes the best of them and gently decorates your space with pieces of them, with their qualities and their smiles. Your world simply adorns you with the best people. That is why you don’t let anything that can harm your world close. You stay away from anything that is trying to define your world. Anyone that tries to break it is not good, is not considerate. In your world, your words matter and your feelings are impeccable and important. Your world sees a side of you no one gets to see, it feels your vulnerability and it stops you from crying when someone hurts your feelings. Your world is your shield and those who insist on destroying it must be removed.

Your world is more than your soul; it is the place you have created in your mind when all your worries collapse, where you feel your heart beat faster than ever and where you realize why are you alive. It allows you to see yourself, to love yourself, to embrace who you are. It holds you so tight whenever you are afraid and it plays with your hair when no one else will. It understands you; it is your company when you are lonely. Your world is your best friend and everything that is made of it are pieces of love and pieces of people who have offered you their best and who have given you their world so yours can grow stronger and beautiful.
