Acclaimed and fabulous author Molly O’Neill is coming to Chatham April 1st and 2nd. In honor of the former New York Times writer’s book, “One Big Table: A Portrait of American Cooking,” here’s our guide to some fantastic foodie blogs on the internet. Whether you’re a culinary queen or just love sweet treats, these blogs have photography and recipes that will keep you riveted.
(Have a favorite foodie blog? Send it along and we’ll include it, credited to you, in a forthcoming Part 2!)
In addition to her book, Molly O’Neill keeps a blog full of history, anecdotes and recipes calling for wonderfully indulgent ingredients, from truffles to vanilla bean. Don’t let the decadence fool you, though: there are plenty of ideas that could work in the dorm kitchen (Red Velvet Cake, anyone?).
Bake and Destroy
Zombies, music and cake: three of the many awesome things you’ll find on Bake and Destroy. With a punk rock sensibility, Natalie Slater details her kitchen successes and mishaps in the context of such fantastic topics as 90s Nick or comic books. Bonus? She definitely includes plenty for vegans (we’re craving these Chocolate Pistachio Whoopie Pies and Pancake Cupcakes).
Bakerella
With stunning photographs and a knack for storytelling, Bakerella’s blog is magnificently adorable. Informally credited with popularizing (if not inventing) the cake pop, she’s particularly exceptional at creating edible versions of cartoon characters (the Lorax and the Muppets are favorites).
CakeSpy
Seattle-based visual artist and culinary adventurer Jessie Oleson is the Indiana Jones of food blogging: she always gets the scoop on the country’s best under-the-radar bakeries and treat trends. Oleson never shies away from creativity in her kitchen, either: just check out this article on uses for uneaten Easter candy. Another thing to fall in love with? Her extremely cute art featuring Cuppie; you can buy your own originals or prints in her shop.
