Exit Interview: Kayla Clem ’14, HC Chatham Team Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

We’re celebrating the HC Chatham team members who graduated in December 2014. Here’s our tribute to Kayla Clem.

In November 2011, Kayla Clem stood among protestors in Market Square, chronicling the Occupy Pittsburgh rally on camera. The experience transformed into the first-ever Her Campus Chatham feature. As a founding member of HC Chatham, Kayla helped shape the publication through its first months and continued to be a dedicated supporter throughout her time in college. Kayla is both a talented writer and an extraordinary photographer: she always captured Woodland Road’s beauty with ease.

There are plenty of things that make Kayla amazing. Her passion for integrative health drove her through some of Chatham’s toughest courses. A graduate of Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts 6-12, she’s a fantastic instrumentalist. But her high level of talent is only matched by her humility. It is a joy to work with someone whose commitment to helping others informs every element of her life, from her major to her future career.

We spoke with Kayla to find out what she loved most about her Chatham experience.

Why did you choose Chatham?

I chose Chatham because of the beautiful campus and the scholarships that they offer! Also, they have a really unique integrative health studies program.

What will you miss most about Chatham?

I will miss being surrounded by empowered women and constantly being inspired by professors and peers to think and do bigger things!

What advice do you have for the incoming Class of 2019?

The advice I have is to hold on to the desire to learn and to soak in everything you can from the four years.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is doing research related to natural medicine, proving the efficacy of herbal supplements!

What do you love most about being a Chatham alum?

I love being an alum of the Chatham college for women. It has both historical and personal significance now that the university is going co-ed.

Congratulations, Kayla! We are so thrilled to see what’s ahead for you, and we’re cheering you on all the way!
