Beti Kercelli

Year: Junior/Senior

Hometown and Your Favorite Thing About It: Durres, Albania. For many who don’t know the location: Albania is a neighbor with Greece on the south and very close to Italy on the west. What I love most about Durres is the 5 minute walk to the beach from my house and the 3000-year-old architecture.

Area of Study and Why You Chose It: Interior Architecture. I always enjoyed art and creating things myself, and the program (Architecture + Interior Design in one) was definitely a great choice.

Extracurricular Activities/Jobs/Etc.: I work as a student manager at the AFC on campus. Recently I became the treasurer of a new club, Asian Culture Association, which helped me create new friendships. I am also a member of Green Building Alliance and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.

Favorite Books: I like reading realistic literature by Honore de Balzac, Leo Tolstoy but also romantic novels by Jane Eyre and Nicholas Sparks.

Favorite Movies: The most memorable movies would be The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga, Think Like a Man, and 21 Jump Street.

Favorite TV Shows: Vampire Diaries, Glee, Once Upon a Time, Emily Owens MD.

Favorite Foods: SEAFOOD! I miss Mediterranean cuisine… My favorite dessert is cheesecake, which I tried for the first time 4 years ago when I came to the U.S.

Favorite Musicians/Bands: Ne-Yo, Christina Perri, Emeli Sande, and European artists like Edward Maya and Inna.

Ultimate Friday Night: Having a get-together at my apartment with good friends and showing my culinary skills.

What’s your favorite thing to do for fun in the winter?

Ughh! I don’t like winter, but I would say going snow tubing during the day and having a home spa night with friends in the evening.

What do you love most about Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh has activities for all moods. I can visit quiet and cozy places when tired and fun, energetic places when excited.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for a month, where would you go?

Nigeria. I always wanted to go to Africa, but now I have a closer reason to want to go there.

If you could instantly become an expert at one talent overnight, what would you pick?

Become a hypnotist.

Childhood Dream Job: Being an architect

Current Dream Job: Having my own design firm.

What do you love most about being a Chatham student?

I am a transfer student and in comparison, what I love most about Chatham is the diversity of ethnicities and the sense of community.
