Ashe Nicholson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.
Name: Ashe Nicholson

Year: Senior

Hometown and what you love about it: Pittsburgh! I love the museums here, especially the natural history museum; I could stay with the dinosaurs for hours.

Area of study and how you chose it: Creative Writing. I’ve always had a love for writing, it’s one of the ways I can express thoughts and ideas and share them with the world. Naturally Creative Writing just seemed to fit.

What organizations are you involved with at Chatham?
Currently I write for HerCampus as a writer and photographer and the Odyssey as a writer.

What is one thing you hope to learn in 2015?
I’d love to keep working at my photography; there is always a beautiful world to explore.

Why did you choose Chatham?
I chose Chatham for its academics and Women’s Leadership; both have helped me to become the world ready woman I am today.

What advice do you have for prospective students making their college decision?
Whatever you do, don’t sign up for a major because you feel like you have to, or go for something you think will make the most money. Go for something that will truly make you happy, because your happiness and wellbeing is what it boils down to in the end. Don’t feel like you have to sacrifice a part of yourself to make others happy.

What’s surprised you most about Chatham so far?
How beautiful the campus is! I mean when I first arrived it was lovely, but it seems to grow more and more wondrous each year.

Childhood Dream Job:
Paleontologist. Like I said, I love dinosaurs, perhaps a wee bit too much.

Current Dream Job:
I have so many. Photographer, vocalist, anthropologist, paleontologist, writer… I like to explore my options.

If you could only eat at one Pittsburgh restaurant for a full year, which one would you pick and why?
Probably Panera. I’d basically have the same bagel and apples diet I already have.

If you could be best friends with any movie character, who would you pick and why?
Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings. He’s loyal, I think he’d make a wonderful friend. Definitely one I’d trust to journey with me.

If you could join the cast of any TV show, which one would you pick and why?
I don’t watch much TV, but if I had to pick a show, I’d go with Sleepy Hollow–action, some thrills, mystery. Sounds like a good deal to me! Plus it’s pretty funny to watch Ichabod Crane adjust to today’s world.

You have a friend visiting Pittsburgh for one day, and you’re planning the itinerary. Where do you take them?
Phipp’s Conservatory–it’s gorgeous, full of life and wonders.

You can live in the world of one book for a day. Which one do you choose and why?
Middle Earth–I’d love to visit Rivendell or the Shire. Mostly Rivendell.
