Campus Cutie: Alec Loeb ‘15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Cutie: Alec Loeb of Pi Lambda Phi.  Bringing a taste of the North to this southern slice of heaven, he’s a talented musician, whom you may have seen performing at one of the many bars around Chapel Hill.  He is also an avid traveler, who has recently accepted a job with Ebay! in San Francisco after graduation!

Hometown: Marlboro, New Jersey

Year: Senior

Major: Business

Minor: History

Hobbies: Guitar, singing, basketball (playing and coaching a youth recreational league), traveling and eating

Favorite song: “Yes Please” by No Komment

Netflix show of choice: Friday Night Lights (He’s a Tim Riggins fan!)

HC: What is your favorite thing about Chapel Hill/memory at UNC?

AL: Last year, I was in a band with some friends.  Our first gig was at He’s Not on the night of Senior Bar Crawl, and it was great.  We played for hundreds of people and it went really well and led to a few other gigs for our band.

HC: Describe your ideal girl.

AL: She has to be smart, driven, independent and able to challenge me.  Oh, and beautiful, of course.

HC: Describe your perfect date.

AL: It would probably start with a nice dinner in New York City, followed by a walk along the Hudson River.  Then, we would go get some ice cream in Little Italy.  As long as we’re eating, I’m happy!

HC: What’s your motto to live by?

AL: To see as much as you can while you can.  I just want to go see as much as I can while I’m young because once I’m settled down, I won’t have that kind of freedom.

HC: Who is your role model?

AL: Harvey Specter from “Suits,” because he has taught me how to take control of the business world and to never take “no” for an answer.

HC: What was the best moment of your life thus far?

AL: One time, when I was in Israel, some friends and I woke up at 6 a.m. and were walking around as the sun was rising over the mountains.  It was really beautiful and I was just really happy.

HC: How did you become interested in music?

AL: I started playing guitar when I was 13.  I was at my friend’s house and he had just learned this basic song on guitar, and I was fascinated.  Also, my dad was a DJ in college and I always used to see him playing on his turntables.

HC: What is it that made you choose the guitar versus another instrument?

AL: It’s one of the most dynamic instruments for playing any genre of music. I can play Drake one minute and [Led] Zeppelin the next. Also, it’s portable so I can take it anywhere with me, and I can sing with it.

Does anyone else suddenly need guitar lessons?
