5 Tips to Push Away 2016 Negativity and Start a Fresh 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

Review your relationships – and life

You may have some relationships in your life that don’t bring out the best of you – neither some of the good things.  In focus to find your best part and enjoy the most, you should review your relationships. Maybe get away from those who don’t make you feel, most of the time, comfortable or happy, or don’t appreciate everything you have to offer. Give away also what you don’t need: as you do with your relationships, you should review everything around you, such as clothes, books or accessories that you don’t use any longer. Give it to people who actually need it! Stop doing activities that pull your energy out and aren’t important in your life.

Focus on  important things

In 2017, try not to focus on things that have already proven to be wrong. Focus on you, your grades, your body, friendships, family, smiles, trips and those moments that stick in your mind. Stay away from jealous people, consumerism, fights… even that little criticizing conversations. Try also to complain less, it changes everything!

Set goals

What do you want to do in 2017? Improve your grades? Start going to the gym? Write all things you want to change  this year and read your list at least once a week. Try to focus on how you can reach your goals.

Take care of yourself

Sometimes we do a lot on our day and forget to take care of us. In 2017, try to set a moment just for you. Meditate for 5 minutes, drink lots of water, sleep 8 hours/day. Do different things, go to different places, be a volunteer. When you start doing things that you’re not used to, your brain changes and you become a new person (and there are you, taking care of yourself). Save a moment for you to do what you really want to, it doesn’t matter if it’s going to the movies by yourself, read a book that isn’t on your university list, share a bottle of wine with a friend…

….or just lay in bed – you should do more of what you want, because sometimes, that’s all you truly need.

Always be grateful

Enjoy the little things in life! Find an empty box and every time something good happens to you, write it in a piece of paper and place it into the box. In the end of the year, you will see how much you have to be thankful for. Always be grateful, and remember that bad moments won’t affect you as much as they used to when  you can see how good other things can be.
