7 Signs You’re Secretly Buddy the Elf During the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

“SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA’S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!”

The holiday season is near, and I don’t know about you, but it is very dear to my childlike heart.  From November to December, the lyrics of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” dance in my mind while the visions of turkey legs and Black Friday excite it.

I have my “Christmas Classics” playlist playing throughout my house, starting the first of December. My house smells of homemade cookies and the cheer of the holidays.

During this season, a very special, lovable and quite unique holiday character always dominates my brain. This cheerful character is Buddy the Elf: a human raised by elves. From his creative imagination to his unconditional love for Christmas, Buddy the Elf inspires me every year to spread the holiday cheer and enjoy the joyous season.

Here are seven signs you may be secretly Buddy the Elf during the holidays, just like me:

1. You have a checklist of all the seasonal activities you want to do.

You have a time and date set for each of these activities.

You look forward to doing these activities months in advance.

These activities are the most cliché holiday activities, like ice-skating, tree decorating, cookie baking/decorating and live Christmas tree picking.

Live Christmas tree picking is my personal favorite!

2. You can’t resist singing Christmas songs aloud no matter what kind of singing voice you have.

You actually go Christmas caroling.

Your favorite holiday songs are “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

I have been guilty of belting “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” in a Dollar Tree. #hatersgonnahate #celebratorsgonnacelebrate

3. You tend to get cranky when Starbucks runs out of any of their holiday flavors right before you order.

You are convinced a mocha isn’t perfect without peppermint.

You know white chocolate peppermint hot cocoas can’t exist without peppermint.

You are beyond obsessed with the peppermint flavoring.

Come on Starbucks, you had one job: make sure you overstock the peppermint. #HolidaysFlavaCraze

4. Decorating the tree has become a sport-related activity for you and/or family.

Finding your Christmas decorations is like a big game of hide and seek.

Your family has a record of trimming the tree in less than thirty minutes.

Who can put of the most ornaments on the tree the fastest? 3…2…1… GO!

5. You can barely contain your excitement for Black Friday.

You have a specific fold up chair you use for camping out on Black Friday.

You remember when Black Friday meant waiting in front of Walmart at 2 a.m. with your parents to confirm you were getting your first Wii for Christmas.

Waiting in line in the wee hours of the morning for my Just Dance game was so worth dealing with the angry people at Walmart. #bargainthuglife

6. Your appetite for holiday goodies is ravenous.

You are convinced the four main food groups are candy, candy canes, turkey and cookies.

You eat so much holiday food that you have to take a nap between meals.

I inhale my food over the holidays. #holidayfoodisbae

7. And lastly, you are just beyond bubbly and generous during this festive season.

You love buying people Christmas gifts, even if you barely know them.

You hold the door for someone because it makes you feel cheery.

You get all warm and fuzzy by helping others during this season

Happy Holidays, everyone!
