Travel Smart, Prepare Better

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buff State chapter.

The holidays are approaching and for us college students this is both the best and the worst time of the semester! We get to see all our family and friends, be back in our own beds, shower without sandals, and eat home cooked meals. But what we all know that is the biggest hassle for the holidays is actually traveling! The airports, bus stations, and train stations are always so packed and hectic around this time of year which can be both stressful and annoying. To help avoid the stress or at least ease it a lot I’m going to give you a few tips to help you be better prepared to travel and avoid and chaos!

1) Packing: If you plan on going home or away for the holidays make sure you pack in advance and pack accordingly. Packing in advance allows you to be able to leave and head to which ever route you plan on taking to travel in a quick and prompt manner. Waiting to pack always leaves you stressed out because you’re in a time crunch and you tend to forget essential things you need because you’re rushing. Make sure you don’t over pack as well because half the time you won’t need what ever extra stuff you pack it just makes it worse when you have to check your bags in before your trip and pay extra handling fees because you have an extra suitcase or the one you have weighs a ton!

2) Checklist: Make a checklist of everything you should need so that you can check off everything as you go about getting ready for your trip.

3) Clean: It’s always good to clean your house before you go on vacation so you can avoid coming back to a mess and a smelly place.

4) Essential items: For some reason people seem to forget the most important things to bring with them on a vacation like their I.D., passport, ticket, keys, important medical info, medications. Make sure those are at the top of your list of things to make sure you pack!

5) Leave early: Always leave early to avoid long lines and crowds waiting for the train. plane, or bus. Leaving early allows you to check your bags, find where you need to be to depart, and even do the little things like charge your phone, get a snack, use the bathroom.

All these tips I’ve given you should help you to have a better experience when traveling. So make sure you prepare better so you can travel smarter!
