International Student Organization

The Snapshot of the Week is dedicated to an organization here on campus: International Student Organization, or ISO. It brings together students of different cultures and gives them the chance to interact with one another. I got a chance to interview the President of the ISO, Meghan Hospedales, pictured first on the far-left bottom row. 

 

HC Buff State: What’s the name of your organization and what is your position?

Meg H.: Our organization is called the International Students Organization, I”m the President for the ’14-’15 school year.

HC Buff State: What is your organization about?

Meg H.:  ISO is centered around the International Students here on campus, there over 300 of them from places like Kuwait, Brazil, China and more, and we hold cultural events for different ethnic backgrounds ranging from Latin, European, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and African but all our events are open to the general public. I believe our events help foster diversity especially between people that are not familiar with a different culture.

HC Buff State: Who can join?

Meg H.: The students of Buffalo State can join our organization and receive updates on events as well as participate in certain events via our bengal connect page at https://www.bengalconnect.com/organization/iso

HC Buff State: What are some of the things you all do in the meetings?

Meg H.: In our meetings we discuss our upcoming events and assign jobs to our board members about what type of event to host, what food to have, assigning people to contact performers, etc. Our General Interest meetings are different, we provide information on the organization to newcomers and we also something have special guest speakers talking about International relative items such as politics and

HC Buff State: Any events/meetings coming up?

Meg H.: We do have our General Interest meetings with the ISAC (International Student Advisory Council) every Thursday during Bengal Connect in Assembly Hall 1. In the event of finals week, ISO will be hosting several events to levee the stress of Buffalo State Students.

Alexandra Whitehead is a Senior at SUNY at Buffalo State. Originally from Virginia, she is majoring in Fashion Textile and Techonology with a concentration in Merchandising. She also has a minor in Theatre. Alexandra is a big advocate for the arts, taking great pleasure in literature, performing, and media arts. She also loves traveling and experiencing new things. In the Fall of 2014, she had the great opportunity to study abroad in London at Regents University. It was an amazing experience that taught her so much about herself and the different cultures around her. When she graduates, Alexandra aspires to be a film/television actress, owner of a eco-friendly fashion boutique, and owner of an animal rescue that saves feral cats and kittens from the streets.
