Lord & Taylor Trendsetter: Bailey Clement

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

“Are you a trendsetter?”, asked Lord & Taylor as they sought Boston University students to be the face of their new brand ambassador program, launched this past September. Applications rolled in, but only two BU students could fill the positions. So without further ado, meet Bailey Clement, one of Lord & Taylor’s new trendsetters!

Bailey, a sophomore and Magazine Journalism student within COM, is no stranger when it comes to the world of fashion. As a current national contributing writer for Her Campus, she frequently writes on the subject of style and beauty. Not to mention, she’s an Events Coordinator for BU’s Ed2010, a magazine-networking club designed to help students get their foot in the door of the industry.

“Through my extracurriculars I’m trying to acquire as much knowledge as I can about the fashion and magazine industry, and so far I’ve realized that there is always more to learn about both,” said Bailey.

But she’s clearly taking a step in the right direction on her path to fashion genius as she brings Lord & Taylor to BU’s campus for the first time. Through her work with Her Campus, she discovered the retailer’s ambassador program. Despite initial doubts about the competitive nature of obtaining the position and her busy schedule, Bailey proceeded with applying. Her love of fashion and event planning led her to believe the Events Coordinator position would be a good fit.

And it certainly is! Bailey is a trendsetter on and off the Lord & Taylor clock. She describes her style as classic and preppy.

“I love a good pair of patterned Lilly Pulitzer shorts in the summer and a quilted J. Crew vest in the fall. But I also have those random days where I feel like dressing a little more urban and edgier, so I have invested in items such as a pair of combat boots and leather-trimmed leggings”, said Bailey.

But what she notices most is that her style tends to slightly change depending upon her environment. While her hometown look is generally preppy, she finds urban influences in Boston that draw her attention. That’s why she loves to turn to Lord & Taylor.

“It has so many diverse clothing collections that no matter your style, you can always find something to add to your wardrobe.”

Putting the latest styles in any trendsetters closet is what Lord & Taylor is all about. And Bailey definitely knows what it takes to be a fashionista.

“I think the biggest thing about being a trendsetter or fashionista is that you can’t be narrow-minded. Fashion is always evolving and trends are always changing so you have to be open and willing to tweak your style every now and then to stay current,” Bailey said.

She believes a trendsetter is someone who has a distinct personal style and owns it! Being confident about your style is a trend in itself that people can always support, she adds.

Being a Lord & Taylor trendsetter is challenging for Bailey and the programs Marketing Director, BU student Cassidy Kelly, as they’ve had to work from the ground up since Lord & Taylor first launched on campus. But she says it’s exciting.

“We’ve been working really hard to get the word out about Lord & Taylor and increase our social media followers. But all this is really exciting to me because I’m promoting a brand that I absolutely love and am so excited to get to share it with other BU students. I am so happy to be learning more about the fashion industry and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year as a Lord & Taylor Trendsetter holds,” said Bailey.

It won’t be hard to find BU’s newest trendsetter, Bailey, on campus. Look out for Lord & Taylor and she won’t be far. Follow her and Cassidy on Instagram and Twitter @LTatBU for the latest trends, style inspirations, and exciting giveaways. Though LT’s first giveaway just ended, Bailey wants all to stay tuned for another $100 gift card giveaway in mid-November. You won’t want to miss their first in-store shopping party either. Following the social media, where Bailey and Cassidy will post all the latest and greatest, trendsetting announcements, is the best way to keep in touch with Lord & Taylor happenings on campus!

For now, congratulate Bailey on her new job and compliment her when you notice her strutting down our Comm Ave catwalk in the latest trends from Lord & Taylor!
