How NOT to get a food baby this Thanksgiving!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

It’s that time of year again where we skip meals all day in preparation for this big dinner feast! Thanksgiving is a time to get together with family and friends and think about all the blessings you have! It’s also a time where everyone can sit down together to laugh and talk over food! We all know that Thanksgiving is a time to indulge in food, and we probably all made that mistake of eating too much and feeling sooo gross the morning after. With the holiday just around the corner, here are some tips and tricks to get ready for turkey day!

1.     Laugh and talk more

This holiday should be about being together and giving thanks to all the things in your life – food may be one of them but try to focus more on things like family and friends! Instead of looking forward to all the delicious food you’re about to consume, look forward to seeing your relatives and friends. Laugh at some of those old embarrassing family stories to keep you occupied from eating or too keep you from eating too much! Also, did you know laughing also burns some calories! Talk about some new events in your life or share something about college and it’ll keep you from getting that food baby.

2.     Drink water!

Not only will you stay hydrated, but water will also fill you up! I know that you’re saving room for all the mouth watering food, but drinking water will keep you in line from overeating!

3.     Take things in small portions

I know that everything looks so good and you want to eat everything! Well you can! Just take a small scoop of everything and that will be it! Don’t overload on certain foods you like because you won’t be able to enjoy anything else.

4.     Avoid overeating – eat slower

Thanksgiving shouldn’t just be about eating; you should enjoy the food and time spent with your family and friends! Chew a little longer and savor the food!

5.     Skip seconds!

Are you sure you’re hungry enough for second or do you just want food? I’m pretty sure one would be pretty full after a first serving of food. So just skip the seconds and go for dessert!

6.     Exercise

Exercise the morning of and the morning after! I know it might take some extra motivation but it will be all worth it! Even going for a small walk will make things a little better! Going for a run the next morning will make you feel a lot better too!

7.     Wear a dress or stretchy clothing!

Dress accordingly! If you know you’re still going to get a food baby, dress comfortably! Or even if you don’t plan on getting a food baby, dressing comfortably for Thanksgiving is a must! Wear a loose dress or a big sweater, maybe even leggings!

8.     Don’t stress about it!

But at the end of the day, it’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself and being with your family and friends. So don’t worry about eating too much and just eat that damn pie!
