A Guide to the Best Coffee Shops at BU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

For: The Trendiest Kid on Comm Ave

Pavement Coffeehouse

From the moment you step into Pavement, a vibe of calm, cool, and collectiveness surrounds you. The shop itself looks like the living room from an upscale Back Bay townhouse, filled with plush chairs and stocked bookshelves. Their drinks are served in oversized white mugs and are the perfect pick me up for an afternoon of studying. The place gets crowded quickly, so try to avoid rush hours at nine and noon.

Pavement must-haves:

1. Tea Lattes

They give you your own little pot and a cup of steamed milk. Too adorable.

2. Spanish Latte

Not only does the name sound awesome, but it’s made with sweetened condensed milk. Yummmm.

3. Apple cider

A fall favorite that cannot be passed up.

For: The One That Wants to Save the World

Blue State Coffee

You see them protesting on Comm Ave, read about them in BU Today, and are forever being chased down to sign their petitions. Like the do-gooders of BU, Blue State coffee is on a mission to help, one cup of delicious coffee at a time. Customers can vote for which local charity they would like Blue State to donate 2% of its profit to. Believe it or not, sipping a latte just tastes better after knowing that you’ve contributed to your community. The mellow vibe of the coffeehouse is the perfect place to escape to when you want to simply enjoy a drink without seeing every person whose 8 AM just ended.

A few of my favorites:

1. Cascara (Coffee Cherry Tea)

Savory and sweet, a delicious combination.

2. Homemade Hummus

Served with seasonal vegetables and spiced bagel chips. Saving the world tastes so goooood.

3. Nutella Panini

No further description needed.

For: The Familiar Face

Starbucks

Like pulling on your favorite old sweater, Starbucks gives you a little taste of home. Sipping a coffee from Starbucks is like when you see that girl on Comm Ave from your hometown. Even a quick hello from a familiar friend can give you a rush of hometown nostalgia. We’ve all grown up with Starbucks, starting with the days when Venti Vanilla Bean Frappacinos were still innocent and delicious, and not the calorie monsters we see them as now. Luckily, as our tastes for coffee refined and we learned what those gigantic Fraps did to our hips, new Starbucks treasures were discovered.

The Classics:

1. Caffe Misto

Take a break from the typical “coffee and skim milk” with this smooth and milky delighted. Even the name sounds sophisticated.

2. Mocha Frappacino Light

Let the Northface-wearing, Ugg-rocking preteen inside of you rejoice.

3. Pumpkin Spice Latte

This cult favorite is here to stay, to say it simply, it’s Autumn in a cup.
