Five Great Fall Date Ideas in Boston

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

It’s November, and suddenly Boston’s “will she, won’t she” sun has permanently disappeared from the skyline, bringing gusts of wind, early sunsets, and an overall chill which makes every student question whether getting out of bed for class is realistic. But don’t let the biting weather prevent you from exploring the city; this cuddle weather calls for some heated dates.

1) A Phone-free Lunch at Salvatore’s: Off the Grid Mondays

One of the greatest aspects of living in a city abundant with schools and college students is discovering opportunities for free food. A friendly Italian restaurant called Salvatore’s is offering customers two entrees for the price of one if both customers abandon their phones as they enter the restaurant on Mondays during lunchtime. This gives you and your date the chance to truly find commonalities to talk about, without distractions, and enjoy a delicious affordable meal! So forget about your instagram for one meal, and live in the moment.

2) Go to a Hockey Game

Hockey is in full season, and although it may be difficult to get Bruins tickets, you and your date can have fun bundling up head to toe and walking just a couple of blocks to our very own Agganis Arena. With your sports pass, tickets are free, and this is also an easy way to create a double or group date, along with memories of having some school spirit.

3) Visiting a Museum

In the cold, making a trip out to a museum is worth it, as you can spend hours wandering the halls of the Museum of Fine Arts, watching IMAX movies at the Museum of Science, or gazing into tanks at the Boston Aquarium. My personal favorite idea is purchasing tickets to see a show at the impressive planetarium of the Museum of Science to stare up at the stars and planets. There are over forty Greater Boston museums of art, culture, history, nature, and science, so there is truly something for everyone.

4) Fall Festivals

New England’s largest outdoor weekly bazaar is “SoWa Sundays,” exhibiting over a hundred artists, designers, farm and food vendors, and food trucks right here in Boston on Harrison Ave. The outdoor open market is open every Sunday May through October, but the indoor market is available year round. Easy to get to and hard to forget, this vintage market is culturally distinct, so bundle up in your thrift shop sweaters and head over.

5) Apple Picking

Some fall days in Boston can be comfortably warm, and on these days, you may want to explore the beautiful foliage. If you have never been apple picking before, now is the time to do so! Even if you are not the best at apple picking, this activity gets you and your date out the door and enjoying apple cider, donuts, and pies.
