Brittany Devane: Intern for London Olympics 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

What are you doing this summer?  Well, starting in July, Brittany Devane (COM ’12) and fourteen other Boston University students will travel to London to intern as multimedia journalists for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Brittany has always enjoyed covering sports. She started out on the sidelines of her high school hockey and football teams doing play by plays.  As Brittany puts it, “Those who can’t play sports, broadcast them.”  After coming to Boston University and getting involved with Terrier Nation and the Terrier Sports Wire, Brittany was convinced that sports are her passion.  Additionally, after interning at NESN this fall, Brittany has gained additional experience working with the Bruins hockey team.   “Once I got into the professional field, I knew I wanted to pursue sports journalism,” she explains.

Learning about the London program from Professor Susan Walker, Brittany knew that she would be crazy to let this opportunity pass.  “When I got the acceptance I started jumping up and down and crying,” Brittany explains.

Unsure of what her exact tasks will be once she arrives in London, Brittany is still ecstatic.  “How many students can put ‘Coverage of Summer Olympics’ on their resumes?” Brittany laughs.

Brittany is excited for such an amazing opportunity and is confident that this experience will catalyst her into the field of Broadcast Journalism.
