In the mood to snuggle indoors under a blanket as the weather turns crisp? We all are. But instead of curling up with a pumpkin spice latte, you can get the real deal if you visit one of the many scenic apple and pumpkin picking locations New England has to offer.
Just rent a Zipcar, grab a few friends and head on over to any of these top fruit goldmines this fall:
A few places to go:
Honey Pot Hill Orchards
Stow, MA

With weekend hayrides and homemade treats, this idyllic farm is the ideal place to break up midterm season with a day filled with fun outdoor activities. And if simply getting lost in nature is your thing, the orchard recently opened up the Green Monster Hedge Maze, open on weekends until November 11.
Baking delicious pumpkin pies, blueberry strudels, and of course, the classic favorite apple pie with the fresh fruit you can collect here is a great way to spend a brisk autumn afternoon.
Russell Orchards
Ipswich, MA

Known for its exceptional bakery and fruit harvests, Russell Orchards. Although the farm’s apple picking season has ended, its annual Apples and Wine Festival will be taking place on November 3 and 4. The winery also hosts a large selection of wines and holds tastings on weekends, for those of you over 21. It’s best to plan a full-day trip, as there is oodles to do at Russell Orchards.
Shelburne Farm
Stow, MA
http://shelburnefarm.com
This orchard contains a variety of pumpkins of all types and sizes to be picked all days of the week. The website features a schedule to help plan your trip. You will not come back empty-handed, that is guaranteed. Also, if you’re an animal lover, make sure to go visit the adorable farm animals, including ponies and llamas, you can find here.
Be sure not to miss the tail end of the harvest season! The fresh air will do wonders to refresh your minds as you tackle papers and exams this month. Happy picking!
