Meet Our Team: Veronica Walton

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryn Mawr chapter.

Veronica is one of our newest writers, but she’s not by any means new to writing; she’s an English major, founder of The Side-Eye, Bryn Mawr’s only satirical news platform, writing a novel and writing for Her Campus Bryn Mawr, just to name a few of her activities! Keep reading to find out more about her and her projects.

What’s something people should know about you?

I’ve been a vegetarian for my entire life!

What are your go-to vegetarian recipes and restaurants?

For breakfast, I love to take a slice of multigrain bread and slap some peanut butter and banana slices on it! I also love mixing some Haffner/NDDH quinoa with marinara, olives, basil and oregano for lunch. When I’m home, I curry chickpeas and grill Field Roast veggie burgers for a healthy, protein-packed dinner. My favorite veggie restaurant in Bryn Mawr is definitely either Tiffin or Sweet Freedom Bakery, and Monk’s Cafe in Philly has an amazing vegetarian cheesesteak.

I have a very dry sense of humor (according to my mom).

Why did you choose Bryn Mawr?

For its traditions, empowerment and intellectual intensity!

What made you interested in Her Campus?

I am mainly a creative writer / avid diarist but I realized that I needed a space in which I could write and publish my personal thoughts on Mawr life. I have a lot to say!

What other activities are you involved with on campus? Off campus?

I sing with the Bi-College Chamber Singers, take voice lessons, perform with Greasepaint Productions and Spotlight Theatre Company and write for a few campus publications (including The Side-Eye, for which I am the founding EiC!).

Could you tell us some more about The Side-Eye?

The Side-Eye is BMC’s only satirical news platform! We also publish creative writing and opinion pieces. My friends and I founded it together because we wanted to have a place where students could share their voices and not have to worry about strict deadlines. You can get involved by emailing me: vwalton@brynmawr.edu!

What are some things you’re up to and how can we support you?

I’m currently in the midst of writing a novel — then again, I always am! I’m also stressing out about summer internships! If you know of any creative media, performing arts or editorial companies that are looking for interns… lend a girl a hand.

Could you tell us more about your novel?

I’ve written countless novels and novel-like projects since I was in elementary school but haven’t completed most of them. I’ve been working on this novel as it is right now for about two months, but I’ve written other drafts of the same type of story. It’s basically a coming-of-age semi-autobiography about a girl in college dealing with the loss of her grandmother and her changing relationships with friends. I don’t normally share my writing with other people (unless it’s a poem or something else small), because it’s difficult to ask someone to read an entire novel, or even just a chapter of it, and understand it out of context before it’s complete. I hope to finish most of it by the end of the summer and maybe into next winter break; I don’t usually write a great deal when I’m at school — I’m an English major already!

Anything else you’d like the Bryn Mawr community to know about you?

I’m starting to get into astrology. In case you’re curious, I’m a Cancer sun, Pisces moon and Scorpio rising.

Thank you for your time Veronica!

Keep up with Veronica on Instagram!
