How To Stay Cute…Even With Your Period

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

The feeling of a thousand bricks slamming into your lower back, concrete pouring into your skull and hardening, a punching bag hitting your ovaries, …. Yeah, you have your period.  For some girls, during their period they never feel better.  We know, hard to believe.  But for most girls, the cramps, mood swings, headaches, and cravings during their period can take them from 0 to 60 in .004 seconds.  We all know what it is like to not fit into your staple skinny jeans, toss around in the covers all night until your hair looks like Einstein’s come the morning, and well just look like you’re giving birth to not one, but two hippos at one time.  It’s not cute.  How could it be?  We all know our hair never falls the right way anyhow, so how the hell is it going to fall the right way when we are in excruciating pain for 7 days?  The truth is, more than likely you are not going to look cute during your period.  But there has to be some way too…right?  We think so.  Try out these tips, outfits, and tricks to make you the cutest thang campus has ever seen while you have your period!

1.  Wash your face

We know this is kind of basic hygiene but paying close attention to your face can actually be super beneficial during your period.  Tons of girls breakout with super cute acne during this time of the month…fun.  Our trick?  Each night soak a face cloth in super-hot water.  Squeeze out all the water and just lay it on your face.  Trust us!  Do it!  Leave it for a few minutes; maybe throw a cucumber or two on your eyes.  This will open up all of your pores.  Dry off your face, and massage a TINY bit of moisturizer on your face.  We are positive that having a refreshed-looking face is kinda cute.

2.  Leggings and long cardigans…

So cute.  So comfortable.  Need we say more?  There are so many different outfits you can throw together that will allow your body to feel like it is curled up in bed all day-don’t be ridiculous and walk around in the season’s hottest jeans if your bloated like you chowed down on 5 Chipotle burritos.  There are SO many ways to be super cute and still be super comfortable.

3.  Tea and hot chocolate..and chocolate…and chocolate

There’s nothing cuter than a girl walking to glass with mittens and a cup of tea in her hand [only wear the mittens if it’s cold out].  If you are dating someone, suggest going on a hot chocolate date or making some at home!  Not only will this show you can still be a tad bit normal with your significant other while you have your period, but it will be cute to drop mini marshmallows in each other’s chocolate or sip on some green tea and have “tea time!”…healthy antioxidants for sure!

Oh, yeah, chocolate.  Go chocolate crazy.  Don’t be afraid to make a nutella banana sandwich.  That’s cute, right?

4.  Make-up

There is nothing cute about bags under eyes or super flushed cheeks from those dumb period hot-flashes…or acne.  If you have that special someone who thinks it is cute, keep them.  Or share them with the rest of us!  There are a lot of make-up tricks to hide those evident marks you wish you could wash away.

  • A concealer shade lighter than your foundation will work perfectly!  Dab it under your eyes and blend it in well with your fingers.  Then grab a nude eyeliner pencil and draw it from the corner of your eye and the lower rim…this little trick will make your eyes look bigger and not half-closed because you lost sleep all night.  Our favorite thing to do?  Stick the concealer in the fridge…the cool sensation will tickle your fancy for sure.

5.  Drink water!!!!

Drinking water continuously will not only keep you hydrated and help with those puffy eyes (which are usually an indication of fluid retention), but it will actually relieve you from cramps!  Cute in so many ways.
