Three Places to Study While Enjoying the Sun

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brown chapter.

It’s May, it’s sunny… and it’s reading period. If you’re anything like me, you want to absorb as much sun as possible after what I think was a pretty brutal Providence winter.

It’s tempting to blow off all of your work to lie on Wriston Quad on a towel, pretending you’re on a beach without any obligations. But with finals coming up, that’s probably not really your best option. Instead, try one of these top three ways to enjoy the warm Providence weather, while still studying for your finals.

Smoothies and India Point Park
Grab your books and a towel and head towards Wickenden Street. Stop by Amy’s Place and pick up a refreshing smoothie. Then, head over to India Point Park. Lay your blanket down and start reading. Because the park is so far from campus, you won’t get distracted the same way you would if you were sitting on the Main Green. No one you know will be able to walk up to you and distract you for what at first seems like five minutes, but quickly turns into a 20 minute conversation. The smoothies, the sun and the cutest dogs that are always roaming the park will put you in a good mood—despite the studying.

South Main Street
If you don’t want to walk all the way to India Point Park, you can try bringing your work with you to South Main Street. Filled with lots of different cafes, this street is a great place to work because it’s also isolated from campus, but it’s not as far as India Point Park.

Providence River
Head a little further down South Main Street towards the river. You can sit by the river on a towel and study. The water reflects the sun so if you’re looking to get tan, this is an ideal spot. And, it’s cooler by the river so the heat won’t bother you.
