Terry Shaipitisiri ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Name: Thaviny Terry Shaipitisiri, I usually go by my middle name Terry.

Year: 2017

Major(s): History

Minor(s): Ed. Studies and Education for Secondary Schooling (Currently a candidate for the 10 semester BA/MAT program for Education)

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

Terry Shaipitisiri: On campus, I am involved in different ways with various organizations. First and foremost, I currently work for the Campus Center Team, and occasionally the BranVan with Public Safety Escort Service. As far as clubs, I have emceed and performed in shows for the Southeast Asian Club and the Brandeis Asian American Student Association.  I have also been involved with the Brandeis Black Student Organization and have ran in their ICC Pageant held last school year.  I am also highly supportive of many other organizations and attend as many events as I can.

HC: What has been one of your favorite experiences so far while at Brandeis?

TS: So far at Brandeis, the people I have met have made every mile away from home worth it. If it weren’t for the people here at Brandeis, I’m not too sure how I would have made it. Every individual I have met has provided me support, encouragement, and positivity, especially in the times that they were needed. For that, I am forever grateful for the universe and its ability to pair me with such great individuals in my life.

HC: What is one thing you would like to accomplish before the end of this year?

TS: Seeing that I am studying abroad for the Spring semester, I would love to enjoy a lot of time with my senior friends to let them know that I love and appreciate them. Time is one of the most important things in my life because it’s something so valuable and priceless.

HC: What first attracted you to Brandeis?

TS: I struggled with trying to make a decision between small and big universities for college. I am glad that I was attracted to Brandeis for its size. Although I can probably complain about not having a million friends, and the biggest sporting events(which I thoroughly enjoy), I cannot complain about the relationships I have built on the campus among friends, faculty, and staff.

HC: Do you have any advice for new incoming students?

TS: EXPLORE. Kim Godsoe said it best during orientation my freshman year. You may think you have your life planned out, but don’t limit yourself from learning and trying new things. The more you learn, the more you can grow. Don’t be afraid of that. Take ownership of things outside of your comfort zone.

Favorites:

I usually don’t have any favorites. I enjoy a lot of different things at different times. Favorites really depend on my mood and what I feel like having, seeing, eating, etc. at that moment.

Movie: Jim Carrey’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” This movie is my pick me up movie. It can turn a sad day into a happy day any day.

Food: I eat any and everything (unless it contains something that I’m allergic to). #foodislife #foodisbae

Animal: My spirit animal: Chihuahua.  Small in size, but big in spirit!

Place you would like to go: I want to travel to any place that life allows me to step foot on. Honeymoon destination though? FIJI! Why? PHENOMENAL UNDERWATER HOTELS!! and because it’s gorgeous.

I am a double major in Anthropology and International/Global Studies with a minor in Creativity, the Arts, and Social Transformation at Brandeis University. As a native Southern Californian, I have a born passion for avocados and an innate dread of cold weather. In my free time I love cooking (with avocados of course), drawing and writing.
