Interview with Marina Goreau, Environmentalist and Fashionista

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

What are you involved in on campus?

I’m part of Students for Environmental Action and I go to Fashion Design Club when I have time, because I love sewing.

What have you sewn?

I made one of my favorite black skirts fully from scratch to fit my body. I also make a lot of bow barrettes and alter most of my thrifted clothes.

Do you usually wear black?

I don’t, but lately I have been because it is fall, and trends from this time of year over the past few seasons have been showing up in my clothing choices.  Plus, I love black fake leather.

Why fake leather over real leather?

I also think that fake leather looks better than real leather in the sense that it doesn’t support a co-product of the dairy industry.

Does the environment often show up in your fashion choices?

I suppose it affects the way I dress a lot because I try to live a low-impact lifestyle and have a small eco-footprint. I don’t like to buy leather first-hand and I try to thrift most of my clothes.
