Genevieve Oliveira ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Year: 2015

Majors and Minors: double majoring in Economics and International & Global Studies, and I’ll hopefully be starting B.A/M.A program at IBS next semester!

Hometown: Vitoria, Brazil. It’s actually an island but it’s still a mid-sized city. The best of both worlds!

Her Campus: What are you involved in on campus?

Genevieve Oliveira: I am a Waltham Group Coordinator for Community Connections, an e-board member of International Club and the Vice President of Recruitment for Delta Phi Epsilon.

HC: That’s awesome! What does Community Connections do in Waltham Group?

GO: Community Connections organizes one-time events with a variety of off-campus partners. Since we do not have a weekly commitment thing going on, it is perfect for anyone who wants to volunteer but does not have that much free time. Some of the stuff we’ll be doing this semester includes the Charles River Clean-Up Day and a volunteering event at Drumlin Farms.

HC: That sounds so cool! What has been your favorite community service act you guys have done so far?

GO: I actually just started working as a coordinator this semester, so my first official event will be in a couple of weeks! My two fellow coordinators are abroad this semester, so transitioning was a little complicated. But I finally got a hang of the program and Waltham Group as a whole, so I can’t wait to have an awesome time at my first event, with a bunch of awesome volunteers!

HC: That’s fantastic! That must have been a challenge. You mentioned that you are on the board for International Club, what has been your favorite and hardest experience with that?

GO: International Club is so much fun. My favorite experience was definitely being on stage at Pachanga last year, watching everyone dance and have a good time. I wouldn’t say any of my experiences on I-Club have been hard, but being on e-board has definitely taught me to be reliable and willing to step in when needed. However, I have a bunch of awesome people that I work with, so it has been super fun! Shout out to the best e-board ever!

HC: Are you getting excited to plan Pachanga for this year? Are there going to be any big surprises you can clue us into?

GO: We have been planning Pachanga for a few months now, and we could not be more excited for it to finally happen! We have both a student DJ and a professional DJ from the Boston area performing, and they both have awesome skills. April 12th is the day all our hard work will pay off, so we hope to see everyone there! I can’t really say what the surprises are, but we learned so much from hosting the event last year that we are hoping this one will run much more smoothly and everyone will have an even better time. Yay April 12th!

HC: It sounds like an event people shouldn’t miss! You also mentioned that you are involved in DPhiE, what has that experience been like? What has been the best part about being in DPhiE?

GO: DPhiE is my home away from home here at Brandeis. My sisters have been there for me through the unthinkable, and having their support and encouragement through it all is really wonderful. Their friendship is definitely the best part about being in DPhiE. Of course, we have lots of fun together, with mixers, formals, and all the other sisterhood things we do. I am slightly biased given that I’m in charge of recruitment, but rush is my favorite time of the year!

HC: Thats great Gen! Now, some basics:

Favorite movie: City of God

Favorite TV show: Hart of Dixie

Favorite band: Hm… Does T-Swift count?

Your guilty pleasure: Watching Say Yes to the Dress… Oh boy.

Favorite spot on campus: Shapiro! Best memories, hands down.

Favorite kind of chocolate: Hershey’s Cookies and Cream nom nom!
