Best Songs of the 2000’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bowdoin chapter.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Christina Aguilera’s ‘What A Girl Wants’ and Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’ were in the same decade; however, that is the harsh reality of the world we live in. What is also a reality, is that we experienced that decade every single step of the way (we sound so old, don’t we?).

The 2000s have more of a connection with us than the ‘90s and ‘80s ever did. So my question is: why aren’t we throwing a 2000’s party yet? That decade has given us songs that are, in my opinion, so much better than the’90s (although Blink-182 is still one of my favorite bands ever).

We need to embrace what the 2000’s have given us by launching the careers of many a superstar: Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Beyonce, and has giving us those all-too familiar gems: ‘Low’ and ‘Crank that Soulja Boy’.

So here’s to our childhood and teenage angst…just please don’t try to ‘Drop it Like It’s Hot’ in the library, unless you can “shake it like a polaroid picture.”

(Special thanks to Marcus Karim for helping with song selection.)
