6 Pocket-Friendly Essentials for the Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bowdoin chapter.

Purses can be very bothersome, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. But if you decide to set it down, it’s next to impossible to find at the end of the night among the sea of drunken people and their coats. On the other hand, purses allow you to keep a wide variety of potentially useful items on your person, such as your old iPod or your collection of colored pens. Fortunately, we’ve narrowed down our list to six necessities to have with you over the weekend. The best part? They can all fit in your jacket pockets.

1) Lip gloss or lip balm Cold winter temperatures coupled with nights of dehydration mean your lips will need some extra TLC. Plus, if you’re going to be smooching a special someone, it helps to condition ahead of time.

2) Gum or mintsEven if you aren’t planning on kissing anyone, gum or mints instantly freshen your breath, which is helpful when you’re chatting with friends at loud parties and need to lean in close to be heard. Plus, offering someone a piece of gum can be a great icebreaker!

3) TissuesLet’s face it: Winter in Maine can get pretty cold and pulling a tissue out of your pocket isn’t the sexiest move, but it beats sniffling all night. Tissues are also useful for touching up or wiping away makeup.

4) Bowdoin OneCardYour OneCard acts as your key, your ID and your meal ticket, so make sure to have it on hand when going out. The Campus Food Truck, Jack Magee’s Pub and Super Snacks all accept OneCards as a form of payment, so carrying money is unnecessary.

5) A fully charged phoneNot only is keeping your phone with you vital for your own safety, but you can also use it to check up on your friends and call the shuttle if necessary. It’s also important to have when exchanging numbers with a cute guy or girl!

6) A hair band or twoThere are just some times when you’ve got to put your hair in a ponytail, no matter how much time you spent curling those luscious locks. More often than not, parties in crowded apartments and sweaty College House basements are prime occasions to embrace the sexiness of the messy ponytail.
