Her Campus: What made you choose a future career in elementary education?
Ian Jones: I felt my elementary teachers were some of the most important people in my life. They provided me with a good education and always made me feel comfortable. I plan to do the same with my students.
HC: What is your preferred grade to teach and why?
IJ: I would like to teach fourth grade because I observed a fourth grade classroom last year and enjoyed the classroom atmosphere.
HC: Is there a specific subject you prefer teaching?
IJ: Science
HC: Was there ever a moment where you thought this major wasn’t for you?
IJ: Yes, especially when I couldn’t pass the PAPA tests!
HC: With the Early Childhood Education major having a greater female to male ratio, how does it feel being outnumbered by females in many of your core classes?
IJ: It doesn’t matter to me for the most part. I was aware of this when I chose my major.
HC: What keeps you motivated to stay in this field?
IJ: I enjoy working with children and know I will be able to make an impact on the rest of their life.
HC: What would you say makes you fit for teaching the youth?
IJ: I have a great personality and think children enjoy my presence. So I’ve been told…
HC: Where do you see yourself in five years?
IJ: Hopefully teaching somewhere in Pennsylvania. I have trouble thinking about what I’m eating for lunch tomorrow though.
HC: Would you like to have kids of your own some day?
IJ: I plan on it…one day
