How to be Stress Free During Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

It may be the most wonderful time of the year but not for all college students. Finals are coming and with that comes hair pulling, all nighters, crying, hours in the library studying, screaming, and more crying. Hopefully these tips help you de-stress during finals week!

Treat yourself

Doing something that make you feel good about yourself could totally change your outlook on the madness that is about to happen and the stress that is about to overtake your entire body, turning you into a crazy human that has no self control. So you most definitely should go get a pedicure, a massage anything that will make you relax!

Listen to music

Get lost in a song or two as a study break. We all have those songs that just put us in a great mood so why not listen to them to heighten our spirits. Music is a great way to relax and keep you going.

Get in a good workout

Working out could get so many feelings out while exhausting negative energy that could be build up from all the hours of studying and convincing yourself that you are going to fail all your finals.  So focus on getting out your stress or even anger in a solid workout. Throw some punches, do an ab circuit, go for a run, or lift some weights.

Make time for your social life

Catch up with a friend so it helps the both of you de-stress by talking out your struggles. Throw a mini party with your roommates to dance and sing your stress out. Find someone you can joke around with to let out a couple of good laughs. Grab a meal with some friends to make sure you’re getting food. Get a manicure or pedicure with a friend so your nails look good when you’re filling out your scantrons.

Write it down

Organize what you have to do and when you have to do it by. Doing this will help you prioritise what needs to be done now and what can wait, making your life easier. You could also just write down your thoughts and feelings to try to clear your mind of all things that don’t have to do with studying for those finals

Make sure your body is healthy

Take naps because you probably are not getting enough sleep. Those all nighters your pulling may help you study for one final but are going to mess you up when you need to start studying for more. So make sure you schedule in those naps! Eat healthy foods to boost your energy. Avoid caffeine, the sugar rush only lasts so long, don’t let your body crash. Take a bubble bath or meditate to relax both your mind and body. Drink chamomile, jasmine, green or herbal teas that are proven to relieve stress and anxiety.

Have time for yourself

Use this time to do a variety of activities like watching ONLY ONE episode of your favorite show on Netflix. Clean up a little, with winter break around the corner you’re going to want to know where everything is so you can pack up and leave once finals are over. Go on a short drive to clear your head. Read a chapter in whatever book you’re reading.
