3 Professors You’ll Want to Get to Know this Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Kenny Christianson

If business or economics is your thing, then Kenny is one professor you’ll definitely want to take a class with. Known for his fast paced, energetic way of speaking, he can make any boring economic concept sound interesting. He doesn’t put any of his notes online so practice good habits early and be sure to sit in the front of his class.  Although he is most widely known for teaching ECON 162, or Macroeconomics, Kenny (as he prefers his students to call him) also teaches a few upper level economics electives as well. His tests are straightforward and the homework is reasonable but be warned, if you don’t keep up with the work, you’ll quickly fall behind. Take a class with him and you’ll surely never forget the guns versus butter, production-possibility frontier again.

Ann Merriwether

No Psychology major will make graduate without taking at least one course, research opportunity or independent study from Professor Ann Merriwether. She’s been the lead PSYCH 111 professor for years and if you can successfully make it through the gauntlet that is Introductory Psych, you might just be a real psychology major by the time you graduate. She’s known for her hard exams but also her unwavering passion for all things psychology related. Students who succeed in her introductory level course always rave about her ability to make funny and memorable anecdotes for tricky psychology concepts and her dedication to helping any student that seeks it.  This class will make you work but make it through alive and you’ll come out feeling extremely accomplished.

Ryan Vaughan

Undoubtedly one of the most well-known and highly regarded professors on campus, Ryan Vaughan has worked his way into celebrity status in the world of higher level English courses. Even if English isn’t you’re thing, you’ll definitely want to take at least one of his courses before you graduate. It’s an unwritten rule but it’s almost a requirement for considering yourself a true BU student. From Humor in Film, to Television and American Culture any one of the many classes he teaches will leave you eager and excited to take more. What makes him stand out is his signature way of remembering each and every one of the 150 students that are in each of his classes: he has a “photo shoot” and makes it a point to remember the faces and names of as many students as possible. It’s that kind of personality and clear passion for teaching that makes this guy stellar. Word to the wise, while in most years past his classes are only offered to upperclassmen, and are usually the first to get gobbled up for registration, this year a class called Wrasslin’ with Meaning was offered to Freshmen!
