Bethann Greenberg, Relay for Life 2014 Speaker

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Bethann Greenberg is the mother of freshman, Amanda Greenberg. She was asked to speak at this year’s Relay for Life that was held on Friday, April 11th.

In 2012, Bethann with diagnosed with rectum cancer, which soon spread to her colon. The struggle was hard, but she fought through it. Just recently, in January of 2014, Beth received surgery to remove the cancer in her colon. She is now cancer free and on the road to recovery.

Bethann arrived at this year’s Relay with a smile on her face and excited ready to share her journey with people who are willing to help fight cancer. We have chosen her as this week’s Campus Celebrity to commemorate the remarkable impact her speech made on the Bentley community!

Her Campus: Were you nervous when you were asked to speak at the event?

Bethann Greenberg: Yes, I was very nervous to speak, but I was also very thrilled to participate in such an event. While I was excited to spend time with my daughter, I have never spoken in front of college students before and it created a lot of nerves.

HC: What talking to all these people feel like?

BG: I felt proud that so many people were there to listen to my story. I also felt really happy that I could support the effort to fight cancer.

HC: What were your emotions after giving the speech?

BG: After I finished, I was very choked up. My daughter’s sorority sisters were crying and so were others I did not know, which caused a wave of emotion to rush over me. I felt emotional because numerous people came up after and thanked me and spoke to me about my experiences. I was happy to be a part of this event, but it did bring up a lot of emotions of my battle.

HC: What do you think about the Relay for Life event?

BG: I think it’s a terrific event. I find it amazing how many people came out to support the event. It’s great that so many people across the world and country participate in similar Relay for Life events. The amount of money that they raise is wonderful for the cause.
