2012 Fashion Trends from Around the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Winter whites, deep purples, Caribbean blues, faux fur and grey booties too, these are the things that will keep you in-style for 2012. But how will other countries dress for the year of the apocalypse?

If you find yourself in Europe you might feel like you have taken a time machine back to the 70’s. Tasseled handbags, tribal print, retro floral print dresses, and cropped leggings are all coming back for the spring in Europe. One might feel like they have stepped into the movie Austin Powers Goldmember, but no, this is what is in, right now, in Europe. If you are intrigued by these styles you should check out brands like Phoebe English , who will be showing the tasseled look not just on your handbag, but on your top too. The young fresh designer will definitely give your wardrobe the distinctive and bold addition it needs.

What could you find in the fashion hotspots of Africa? Sheer is in, with tribal and other prints staying as a constant trend in the continent. Additionally, jeweled necklines, one shouldered metallic dresses and the bra crop tops are all additional fashions that will be showing up this spring. House of Silk is a relatively new designer coming out of Nigeria who will be showing their collection during London Fashion Week. The label tends to put their design focus into floor length dresses with touches of gold, rich colors that are elegant and stylish.

Additionally, if you have ever wondered what the fashion is like in Japan’s capital, Tokyo, you have come to the right place. You can promise that you will fit right in if you are wearing mixed patterns, specifically in the blue and green shades as well as sporting stripes and polka dots together as well.  The Shida Tatsuya collection uses the feminine structure of a woman while still incorporating the new fashions within Tokyo.
