Meet HC Belmont: Natalie Peterson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Belmont chapter.

Name: Natalie Peterson

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Ottumwa, Iowa

Major/ Minor: Songwriting/Communications

Role at HC Belmont: Writer

What are your interests and hobbies?

As a songwriter, I love to read and write as much as possible. I’m in the middle of a massive book right now, A Little Life, and I can already tell it’s going to be one of my all time favorites. I also enjoy playing softball, and I am trying to build my repertoire as far as films go.

What are you involved in/off-campus?

At Belmont, I am involved in multiple clubs—other than Her Campus, I am the secretary of a community service organization called Circle K, and I’m also a Bruin Recruiter. Off campus, I volunteer often with Tails of the Trail, walking shelter dogs.

Why did you choose Belmont?

I chose Belmont because I was accepted into the songwriting major, and it was the best fit for me as far as community goes. The family atmosphere, the campus, and the musical involvement were the perfect trio for me.

Any Role Models? Why?

Carrie Brownstein is my role model. She’s a rock star, an author, and a comedian. Her authenticity is radiant, she is independent and takes charge. I’ve tried and I can’t think of a single thing she can’t do.

What is your favorite spot at Belmont?

I’d have to say my love is split between the Johnson Center and the DAC (forever the WAC in my heart)—there’s usually quiet places to study, and there’s food. What more could you ask for?

Fun fact about me:

Might as well be chronological—I was born in an ambulance in the middle of the highway, next to Haley’s Mobile Home Park in Albia, Iowa.

What is your favorite thing about HC?

I love how much freedom HC allows us girls to express our thoughts and encourage other females to be themselves, no questions asked. I’m also up for any opportunity to write in a different style, and Her Campus lets me practice new approaches to writing.

Favorite Quote?

“There’s a whisper of revolution whenever people really speak to one another and listen.” – David Dark

Favorite Food?

Meatloaf is my favorite meal. My mom makes it on my birthday every year.

Favorite Movie?

Dan in Real Life

Favorite Song?

Currently, my favorite song is “From The Morning” by Nick Drake.

What’s something you wish more people knew about you? I wish more people knew my love of lip syncing. I think it’s silly and hilarious.

Born and raised in Louisville, KY, Sarah came to Belmont as a member of the class of 2019. Sarah joined the Her Campus Belmont team as a chapter contributor her sophomore year and took over as President just a few months later. While you'll find her studying corporate communications and theatre during school, in her free time she enjoys hot yoga, bingeing Game of Thrones, and working to make her chapter the absolute best it can be.
