While You Were Out: This Week’s Top News

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

As we finish off the second week of classes here on the Heights, lots of things have been happening in the world.  Here’s what you missed while you were hanging out in O’Neill The Mods!

Breaking Bad Prequel Announced

Breaking Bad lovers rejoice!  This week, AMC confirmed that they are indeed creating a Breaking Bad spinoff.  Appropriately titled, Better Call Saul, the spinoff will focus on Saul’s character and act as a prequel to the series.  With only a few episodes left in Breaking Bad, what better way to keep getting your fix (no pun intended).

Colorado Floods

A devastating flood is ravishing through Boulder County, Colorado, bringing mudslides and raging waters along with it.  Heavy rains continue to fall and there seems to be no end in sight.  As of now, thirty people are still unaccounted for and many towns have been evacuated.  President Barack Obama has recently declared a State of Emergency, which has allowed for four FEMA rescue teams to come into the area, the most ever deployed in the state of Colorado.  As of now, cities are still being evacuated and rescue efforts are continuing in order to try to control the damage that has been done.

Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” Video

Miley Cyrus released her video this week for “Wrecking Ball,” and if you haven’t seen it, you can’t sit with us.  Just kidding, but you should definitely watch it.  It is so crazy bizarre, but also exactly what we would expect from the new and improved Miley Cyrus, complete with nudity and sledgehammer licking (ew).

End of New York Fashion Week

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week coming to a close, fall is officially in season!  From Kate Spade to J. Crew, Marchesa to Ralph Lauren, this fashion week came to impress.  Featuring looks heavy in punk, prints, and pastels, spring 2014 is sure to be a great season in the fashion department.  Now we just have to get through winter!

New iPhone Announcement

This week, Apple announced two new products in the iPhone lineup.  The less-expensive model, called the 5C, which will come in a variety of colors, and the upgraded 5S are slated for release on September 20, so get in line now!  Featuring a fingerprint scanner, upgraded camera, and bigger screen, the 5S is definitely going to be a must-have on the BC campus.  In addition, Apple will be releasing the highly anticipated iOS 7 on September 18 for those of us who are still rocking our old iPhones.
