BC Football Qualifies for A Bowl Game After Win Over NC State

Not only did Boston College football win this weekend, but they also qualified for a bowl game and had two phenomenal players set records. Senior kicker Nate Freese converted field goals of 25, 39, and 41 yards and had three successful PATs to become BC’s all-time scoring leader with 299 points. Senior Andre Williams, who set BC’s single-game rushing record at 295 yards in last week’s win over New Mexico State, set a new record on Saturday. Andre Williams ran for 339 yards to break Boston College’s career and single-game rushing records. Great job, Eagles, and keep up the awesome work for the rest of the season!

Whitey Bulger Sentenced To Two Life Sentences In Prison

Boston’s most notorious gangster, Whitey Bulger, was condemned on Thursday to spend the rest of his life in prison, receiving two life sentences plus five years. In addition to his prison term, he has to pay $19.5 million in restitution to his victims’ families and to forfeit $25.2 million to the government. Judge Casper made a few memorable statements when sentencing Bulger at the trial this past Thursday. She said, “This year, 2013, with all that’s happened in this city, the city of Boston, both tragic and triumphant, you and the horrible things that were recounted by your cohorts during the course of this trial do not and should not represent this city.”

Batkid Saves the Day Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the City of San Francisco

Miles Scott, 5, who is in remission from leukemia, has always had an obsession with comic books. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, they managed to turn his fantasy into a reality on Friday as he “saved the day” with thousands looking on in San Francisco. All of the city of San Francisco, plus a huge social media buzz, made his dream come true. His “life saving” adventures included:

  • At Hyde and Green streets, there was a damsel in distress to rescue, and the bat duo arrived in a Lamborghini with Batman decals
  • At 550 Montgomery St., a burgled bank vault needed to be liberated
  • At Union Square, there was a hamburger to down.

Lady Gaga’s Future Performance Will Be Out of This World

She’s already a global superstar, but now Lady Gaga wants to rule a galaxy far, far away as well. The always out there singer has signed on to perform in outer space aboard a Virgin Galactic flight in 2015 as part of the Zero G Colony music festival. Gaga confirmed the Galactic gig via Twitter Wednesday, writing: “#GagaInSpace2015.”
