I am one of those tweeters who follow mostly my friends, some notable celebrities, and a news publication here or there. Recently however, I branched out to try and find some funny, informative, and actually useful Twitter accounts. Everybody needs a good distraction: something to read on the bus to class, or something to look at when you’re walking through campus and want to look like you’re doing something. Here is a list of some of the best (and worst) Twitter accounts I found in my search. Hopefully you’ll agree that these accounts make procrastination worthwhile.
The Best:
@EatThisNotThat
Although some of the things that Eat This, Not That tweets horrify me to my very core, this twitter account provides so much helpful information about food, cooking, and healthy lifestyle choices. My favorite thing that Eat This, Not That does is tell you what dishes to order at restaurants, so that you can spare yourself some extra sugar or steer clear of processed ingredients. For foodies and non-foodies alike, this is definitely a Twitter to check out.
@HumbleBrag
I’d like to find whoever came up with this idea and give them a kiss. HumbleBrag is exactly what it sounds like: it retweets users who casually gloat about their accomplishments, their looks, or their success via Twitter, and basically makes everyone look ridiculously cocky. An example:
@YourAwayMessage
For anyone who remembers the days of AOL Instant Messenger, you could get lost for hours scrolling through Your Away Message’s tweets. Whoever the genius behind this account is tweets hilarious (and too true) “away messages,” capturing the true essence of middle school and high school online interactions. She has even created a rocky break-up with “Mike,” has a boyfriend named “Jake,” and loves hanging out with her ~gUrLieZ~* on the weekends. For a good, hard laugh, this is definitely something to check out.
The Worst:
@TuckerMax
I think we can all agree I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is hysterical, but it wasn’t until I started following Tucker Max on Twitter that I realized some of his funny comments might actually not be that funny. Tucker Max uses his Twitter occasionally, and at times can be really funny. But more often than not, he’s being sexist, racist, or just plain inappropriate. I’m all for clever humor, but not when it’s degrading to other people. I’m going to stick to his books and keep my Twitter feed free from his live commentary.
@robdelaney
Maybe it’s just not my sense of humor, but comedian Rob Delaney rubs me the wrong way in almost everything he tweets. From degrading sex jokes to twit pics that would give my grandmother a heart attack, I choose to find my laughs somewhere other than this Twitter feed.
@KourtneyKardash, @KimKardashian, @KhloeKardashian
I might get some backlash for this, but I think Twitter etiquette is something to respect and the Kardashian sisters obviously feel differently. The constant retweeting of not only each other, but also everyone who mentions them clogs my Twitter feed and usually isn’t even that interesting. Also, I like Keeping Up With the Kardashians as much as the next girl, but I have failed to see the purpose of live tweeting each episode for every time zone in the United States. I respect them, but I just can’t follow them on Twitter.
There are obviously many more accounts that could be listed in both categories, but these are some notable Twitters that I love and love to hate, and hopefully you guys feel the same way. And, of course, @HerCampusBC is always worth the follow! Happy Tweeting!
