By the end of my four years at an all-girl’s high school I had perfected the art of the ‘messy bun’, as had the majority of my classmates. Otherwise known as the ‘I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-have-no-one-to-impress’ hairstyle, it was an everyday staple. Once I got to college I was alarmed at the amount of effort that seemed to be required for hair prep before class. However, I have personally decided that there is nothing at all wrong with taking this high school look to college and renaming it the ‘Stayed-up-all-night-studying-for-the-excessive-amount-of-midterms-I-have-this-week’. Luckily, I have devised a few ways to FAKE IT and trick people into thinking I have the time and energy to do my hair in the morning (sort of at least). Here are a few tips and tricks:
1. Accessorize! A cute headband or clip distracts from the mess that is your hair, and can even make you look like you did it that way on purpose. My pick for the spring: Bows!
2. Spice it up! If your usual lazy hairstyle is a bun on top of your head, try going for a low ballerina bun at the nape of your neck or off to the side… if you usually wear it low, go for the topknot…you get the idea.
3. Braids! Whether you braid your bangs back, wrap a braid around your bun, or French braid underneath the bun, it is a surefire way to add a touch of class to your ‘do.
4. If you are feeling a little ambitious…The Bow Bun! I promise it is not as hard as it might seem…simply start with a poofy bun on the top of your head, separate it down the middle, then use the extra hair at the front and tuck it in behind to form the middle of the bow…Tada!
